Forbidden Keys to Persuasion - Course Skill
Executable methodology from Blair Warren's 6-lesson persuasion course. This is the Machine layer - HOW to execute influence ethically.
Trigger Conditions
Use this skill when:
- User needs to write persuasive copy (ads, emails, landing pages)
- User is designing a sales funnel or VSL
- User wants to analyze why something is persuasive
- User asks "how do I convince someone to..."
- User is building an offer or pitch
- User needs to structure a persuasive message
LESSON 1: THE FOUNDATION
Three Tendencies of Human Nature
1. People resist unwelcome attempts to persuade them
2. People can't resist what they can't detect
3. People sometimes believe what they are told, but never doubt what they conclude
Two Ugly Truths
- We are ALL manipulators — We all seek to influence others for our own purposes
- Our morality serves as a filter — It colors our perceptions and justifies our actions
The Ethics Test (Use Before Every Technique)
"How would others respond if my true intentions were unexpectedly discovered?"
| Response | Action |
|---|---|
| Outraged, cheated, betrayed | DON'T DO IT |
| Thrilled, excited, amused | PROCEED |
| Not surprised at all | MOST COMMON — usually appreciated |
LESSON 2: THE 7 HIDDEN ADDICTIONS
These are the psychological needs that drive ALL human behavior.
Addiction #2: Hope
Those who create hope in the face of hopelessness command attention. Those who deliver on their promises command loyalty.
Application: In copy, always paint the path from current pain → future state. Never leave them hopeless.
Addiction #5: Know Things Others Don't
Secret knowledge is irresistible.
Application:
- "What they don't tell you about..."
- "The insider secret to..."
- "What I'm about to share isn't public..."
- Frame your knowledge as exclusive
LESSON 3: ATTENTION CAPTURE
The Achilles Heel
We may never know our attention has been captured until after it is released.
4 Effects of Captured Attention
- Paralysis — Fixed, unable to look away
- Approach — Move toward what captures us
- Matching — Begin to mirror or align with it
- Obedience — Follow its suggestions
LESSON 4: PSYCHOLOGICAL VENTRILOQUISM
The Core Principle
Assumptions enter our consciousness unevaluated and unlabeled as such and appear indistinguishable from fact.
SAY vs. CONVEY
| Type | When to Use | Example |
|---|---|---|
| SAY | Verifiable facts | "We've been in business 20 years" |
| CONVEY | Opinions/judgments | (Show technical expertise, don't claim it) |
The Rule
- SAY facts that can be verified
- CONVEY things that would sound arrogant or unbelievable if stated directly
Show, Don't Tell
Like filmmakers: "The bad guy walks in and you know he's bad — but not from dialogue."
Application:
- Don't say "I'm an expert" → Show expertise through specifics
- Don't say "This is valuable" → Stack proof until they conclude it
- Don't say "You can trust me" → Be transparent until they trust you
The Comedian's Secret
Lead audience to make false assumptions, then reveal them. The humor comes from recognizing their own assumption.
Example: "My grandmother has been walking 3 miles a day for 5 years. Now we don't know where the hell she is."
We assumed "exercise" — the punchline reveals our assumption.
The Magician's Secret
- Rolling up sleeves → CONVEYS nothing hidden
- Running a hoop around assistant → CONVEYS no wires
- Never SAY "There's nothing up my sleeve" — SHOW it
LESSON 5: THE GOD COMPLEX
LESSON 6: CMAD FRAMEWORK
THE ONE SENTENCE PERSUASION COURSE
The complete formula in one sentence:
"People will do anything for those who encourage their dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies."
CONTEXT OF POWER
5 Traits of Those Who Command Authority
- Attribute Knowledge to Mysterious Sources — Don't claim brilliance, claim to understand brilliant sources
- Be a Pattern-Finder — Those who identify patterns in chaos become trusted
- Be a Label-Maker — Create names for experiences and phenomena
- Give Others a Sense of Power — "The decision is yours" — even when guiding them
- Be Difficult to Reach/Understand — "There is no long line to the wise man at the bottom of the mountain"
