Core Philosophy
The Greatest Truth: "The world will accept the judgment you place on yourself."
Action Over Thinking: "It's easier to act your way into a new way of thinking, than think your way into a new way of acting." (Jerry Sternin)
Status Is Behavioral: Status isn't money, cars, or material items. It's learned through behaviors - the 12 honest signals that can't be faked.
THE 12 HONEST SIGNALS OF HIGHER STATUS
1. DESTINY
Your grand purpose that pulls you forward.
Key Concepts:
- "Enough is enough" moment - the catalyst for change
- Onion layers - peel each one by attacking what's in front of you with 100% commitment
- Purpose > Relationships (David Deida)
- Set goals you can't achieve in your lifetime (Ted Turner's father)
Exercises:
- Funeral Exercise: Imagine your funeral. What are people saying about you? What accomplishments? Rate them 1-10. What would make them 10s?
- Status Vampires: Write everything on your mind (6 min). Mark X beside energy drainers. Create action steps to close each one.
Examples: Michael Jordan (cut from team → fire ignited), Walt Disney (rejected 100+ times, kept going), Robert Downey Jr. (trained like a fighter for Iron Man audition)
2. BODY LANGUAGE
60-65% of communication is nonverbal.
OGSP Framework:
- Open: Distance between right/left joints. Spread out. Take up space.
- Grounded: Energy in body, not mind. Present. Firmly rooted.
- Slow: Controlled movements. Move like you're underwater. No fidgeting.
- Priding: Proud of who you are. Not hiding. Comfortable drawing attention.
Key Rules:
- "When in doubt, lean out"
- High-status people make themselves comfortable FIRST
- Keep head still
- Room in front of you, wall behind
- No fidgeting (tapping, cracking knuckles, touching neck)
- Steepling hands = power position
Exercise: Pick one OGSP position per day. Master it. Get one positive response. Brain files it. Day 2: new position. 14 days = transformed.
5. WALK
People conclude a lot from how you walk.
5 Traits of High-Status Walk:
- Tall and Open - Posture, shoulders back, chin up. Imagine string pulling you up from crown.
- Purposeful - Know where you're going. Don't "take laps."
- Smooth and Controlled - Move at YOUR pace, unaffected by others.
- [Additional traits from book]
Example: Marlon Brando - Mary Tyler Moore said his walk to trailer was "slowest, sexiest walk" she'd ever seen. Burned into memory for decades.
10. CHARISMA
[To be expanded with additional JC content]
11. STYLE
First impression = captivate attention → signal status → become unforgettable
Incongruity Theory: Stand out by being slightly different from environment. Not swan dress extreme - just enough to captivate.
Halo Effect: Great first impression → people attribute other positive qualities to you
Belief Perseverance: First impressions stick. Hard to change even with conflicting evidence.
3 Keys:
- Captivate Attention - Incongruity theory. What does everyone wear that you won't?
- Signal Status - Model celebrity style. List what they wear AND don't wear.
- Become Unforgettable - Tailored clothes (even $10 T-shirts), 2-3 imprint triggers (visible accessories)
Exercise: What 3 environments matter most? What does everyone wear there? Create rule: never wear that.
12. ENVIRONMENT
Environment raises you up or pulls you down.
3 Types of People:
- Drifters - Let environment happen by accident
- Victims - Environment primes negative emotions
- Leaders - Deliberately create environment that raises them
Law of Environmental Exposure: Meeting someone in person who changes your concept of what's possible (Joel Marion, seeing Alexander's statue)
Law of Sustained Exposure: Long-term factors to maintain level. Remove what brings you down.
Crab Bucket Metaphor: Other crabs pull down the one trying to escape. Are people in your life pulling you down?
Red Flags: Gossip, constant interruptions, negativity, people who invalidate your intentions
