When to use

Out of scope: Kaizen events (kaizen), Six Sigma (six-sigma), Theory of Constraints (teoria-das-restricoes).

Workflow / Process

1. Clarify — confirm the goal, constraints, and current state before acting.
2. Assess — inspect what exists; find the real problem, not the symptom.
3. Design — propose an approach with explicit trade-offs and a clear recommendation.
4. Execute — implement in small, verifiable steps using Lean conventions.
5. Verify — validate against value-stream waste reduced and flow/lead time improved.

Best practices

• Map value streams to expose waste.
• Target the eight wastes (DOWNTIME).
• Create flow; reduce batch sizes and handoffs.
• Implement pull to avoid overproduction.

Anti-patterns

• Optimizing local steps while the whole flow stalls.
• Cutting cost in ways that harm customer value.
• Tools without the underlying respect-for-people culture.
