Cora Positioning
Positioning framework for Cora, Every's email product. Sourced July 2026 from the ruled
canon: the Cora V2 Brand Strategy Mini-Doc, the messaging spine, and Web Copy R002 —
one document, June–July 2026. Voice execution lives in brand-voice/cora (the canon
doc's personality, tone registers, and voice rules port there).
When to invoke
- When defining or refining Cora's brand position
- When a strategy or craft skill needs Cora positioning context
- When launching a Cora product or feature
- When Cora must be distinguished from email clients or AI email features
Purpose, north star, promise
- Purpose: Cora makes email easier.
- North star: Email that thinks like you.
- Brand promise: Cora reads every message, finds the few that need you, and handles the rest — so you can stop babysitting your inbox. The promise is not speed, not organization, not calm. It's that it's done.
The spine
- Essence: Cora is the inbox you already have, run by hyper-competent, personalized AI, built for where the future of work is going.
- Lead line / hero: "Stop working for your inbox."
- Descriptor: The AI inbox that does email for you.
- Campaign provocation: Don't do your email. (Deploy, not promise.)
- Positioning statement: Cora is AI for email. For people who lose hours a day to email, Cora reads every message, drafts the replies it can, and gives you a 30-second brief of the rest — so the only email left is the email that's actually for you. Where Superhuman makes you faster at email, Cora makes email need less of you.
- The wedge (vs. the benchmark): You don't need email with superpowers. You need your inbox to leave you alone.
Known surface tension (July 2026): Web Copy R002's hero reads "AI Native Email." while the ruled spine's lead line is "Stop working for your inbox." — check the current copy round before locking any hero surface. "Serious Email for Serious People" is the proof bar hed, not the hero.
The three pillars
| Pillar | One line | Carries |
|---|---|---|
| Familiar | It's still your inbox. | Kills adoption friction; same Gmail, no migration, nothing sent without you. |
| Does the work | You stop working for your email. | The core benefit and the labor flip: screens, drafts in your voice, briefs twice daily, learns who matters. |
| Open | It answers to you, not a platform. | The forward claim: best models from Google/Anthropic/OpenAI; web, iOS, Android, iMessage, CLI. |
Enemy
The inbox as boss — the customer feels like they work for their email. Inbox zero is a false god: even achieved, it resets by morning. Competitors make you faster at the thing consuming you; speed is the trap (Superhuman's own churn proves it — users get faster and don't spend less time). Never a named-competitor enemy on customer surfaces.
Audience
Category: AI email management. Target: knowledge workers at 100+ emails/day who want the inbox dealt with, not organized. Three researched personas (645 survey responses + Kieran's persona research):
- T1 Taylor — the overwhelmed executive (150–300+/day, tried everything). Pain: "email is a full-time job I didn't sign up for." Way in: delegation — "Hand it off like you hand off your calendar." Churns if an important email is missed.
- T2 Jordan — the anxious perfectionist (60–150/day, tens of thousands of unreads). Pain: the one that gets away. Way in: Fresh Start + All Caught Up transparency — "Nothing slips, and you see everything it touched." Churns on ambiguity.
- T3 Sam — the behavioral optimizer (40–100/day, philosophically done with email). Way in: the ritual — "Two checks a day. That's the whole relationship." Churns if the ritual breaks or demands tinkering.
Not our user: email-obsessive power users (want control, not delegation), email ignorers, low-volume (<15/day), and stay-in-Gmail users. Shared truth across all three targets: trust is fragile — one missed email and they leave; when they believe, they proselytize.
Archetype
Sage primary, Caregiver secondary. The Sage grounds competence and trust — Cora
earns authority through results, delivering understanding. The Caregiver supplies the
emotional register — relief, service, anticipation. The tension held on purpose:
intelligent enough to trust, personal enough to feel of service. Intelligence is the
mechanism. Relief is the outcome. Personality expression (concierge tonality; Attuned,
Decisive, Forthright, Professional, Terse, Grounded) executes in brand-voice/cora.
Positioning-relevant voice rules (full set in brand-voice/cora)
No speed language — speed is competitive territory and the wrong frame. No productivity guilt — the customer already knows email hurts. "AI-powered" isn't enough — get specific. Numbers over adjectives ("I handled 37 emails" beats "we managed your inbox").
Proof points (sourced — cite when used)
275 interruptions/day per knowledge worker (Microsoft Work Trend Index 2025, n=31,000); 85% of emails read in under 15 seconds (MS WTI 2024); 78.7% of workers have felt inbox dread (EmailTooltester 2024, n=1,125); 23m15s to refocus after an interruption (Gloria Mark, UC Irvine); Superhuman churn: "faster at email but not spending less time" (alfred churn analysis, Mar 2026). Product proof: agent-native architecture, the Brief, Focus Mode, All Caught Up's transparent handled count, fidelity levels, everywhere (web/iOS/Android/iMessage/CLI). Pedigree proof: built by Every; Kieran's standing in the community sets a built-in audience with high expectations.
Open rulings (check before generating)
- Hero surface: R002 "AI Native Email." vs. the spine's "Stop working for your inbox."
- Pricing: $15/mo (web copy) vs. $20/mo premium-but-accessible (strategy section) — same doc, unresolved; Brandon + GM lock it.
- The "80% of users" proof-bar stat is unsourced; logo permissions pending.
- Naming carries a documented bull/bear case (evocative Persephone warmth vs. "doesn't sound like anything") — the bear case is answered by sharp messaging, not renaming.
