File contents

  1. State the reporting period, objective, and intended audience. Use only information provided or directly observed in the current context.
  2. Separate verified completed work, work in progress, blocked work, decisions, risks, dependencies, and requested help. Include the impact and owner only when known.
  3. Distinguish facts from estimates, confidence, and assumptions. Do not imply access to calendars, issues, repositories, sessions, metrics, or people that has not been established.
  4. Close with the next safe action, decision needed, or review date if supplied. Make omissions visible rather than filling them with plausible detail.
  5. Match the detail and tone to the audience while keeping the report scannable and free of unnecessary operational or personal data.
