Property Insurance Basics

Overview

This skill provides foundational knowledge for analyzing property insurance claims. It covers standard policy structures, coverage types, common exclusions, and the claims evaluation process.

How to Use This Skill

When evaluating a property insurance claim:

  1. Identify the policy type (HO-1 through HO-8, commercial, etc.)
  2. Determine coverage limits and deductibles
  3. Check for applicable exclusions (flood, earthquake, wear and tear)
  4. Assess whether the claimed damage falls within covered perils
  5. Evaluate the documented loss amount against policy limits

Coverage Types

  • Dwelling coverage (Coverage A): Structure of the home
  • Other structures (Coverage B): Detached structures
  • Personal property (Coverage C): Contents and belongings
  • Loss of use (Coverage D): Additional living expenses
  • Liability (Coverage E): Personal liability protection
