VPC Design Rules
1. Use /16 CIDR for VPCs (room to grow)
2. Use /20 subnets (4,096 IPs per subnet, plenty for most workloads)
3. Minimum 2 AZs (3 for production)
4. Public subnets: Only for load balancers, NAT gateways, bastion hosts
5. Private subnets: Application tier (ECS, EKS, EC2)
6. Data subnets: Databases, ElastiCache, no route to internet
7. Reserve CIDR space for future VPC peering / Transit Gateway
8. Never overlap CIDR ranges between VPCs
