This workflow orchestrates 5 skills across career-development and writing categories into a personal brand building pipeline. A personal brand is the professional reputation a person deliberately cultivates -- it determines what people think of when they hear the user's name in a professional context. This workflow covers the full arc from strategy definition through content creation to audience growth. The process is inherently iterative: content performance data feeds back into strategy refinement every 4-6 weeks.

When to Use

• User wants to establish themselves as a recognized voice in their professional field
• User wants to build a LinkedIn or social media presence that attracts career opportunities, speaking invitations, or consulting clients

Prerequisites

Before starting this workflow, ensure:

1. Professional expertise exists: The user has genuine expertise or a unique perspective in a professional area. Personal branding amplifies what already exists -- it cannot manufacture expertise from nothing.
2. Willingness to be visible: The user is comfortable (or willing to become comfortable) sharing their ideas publicly under their real name. Anonymous personal branding is a contradiction.
3. Time commitment: Personal branding requires consistent content creation -- minimum 2-3 posts per week on the primary platform for 3-6 months before results typically appear. The user must be prepared for this sustained effort.
4. Platform access: The user has active accounts on at least one professional platform (LinkedIn is the default starting point for most professionals).

Steps

Step 1: Define Your Personal Brand Strategy (uses: personal-brand-strategy)

Establish the foundational strategy: who the user is professionally, who their target audience is, what unique value they provide, and how they want to be perceived. This strategy document guides all content and positioning decisions.

• Input: User's professional background, areas of expertise, career goals (what they want the brand to attract: job offers, consulting clients, speaking opportunities, or industry influence), and competitive landscape (who else is visible in their space)
• Output: Personal brand strategy document with: brand positioning statement (one sentence describing what the user is known for), target audience definition, 3-5 content pillars (recurring themes the user will consistently address), competitive differentiation (what makes the user's perspective unique), and tone and voice guidelines
• Key focus: The positioning statement must be specific enough to be memorable. "Marketing professional" is not a brand -- "B2B content strategist who helps SaaS companies turn technical documentation into growth engines" is. The content pillars provide structure: instead of posting about whatever comes to mind, the user has 3-5 defined lanes that create a coherent narrative over time.

Step 2: Optimize Your LinkedIn Presence (uses: linkedin-summary-writer)

Rewrite the user's LinkedIn profile to align with the brand strategy from Step 1. LinkedIn is the foundation platform for professional personal branding because it has the highest concentration of professional decision-makers and the strongest content distribution algorithm for professional content.

• Input: Brand strategy from Step 1, user's current LinkedIn profile content, target audience characteristics
• Output: Rewritten LinkedIn summary (About section), headline, featured section recommendations, and experience section framing aligned with the brand positioning
• Key focus: The LinkedIn headline is the single most important line -- it appears in every comment, post, and search result. It should state the user's value proposition, not just their job title. "Head of Marketing at [Company]" loses to "I help B2B SaaS companies turn content into pipeline | Head of Marketing at [Company]." The About section should be written in first person, tell a brief professional story, and end with a clear statement of what the user helps with.

Step 3: Plan Your Content Strategy (uses: content-brief)

Develop a content plan that translates the brand pillars from Step 1 into specific content pieces. This step produces a 4-week content calendar with topics, formats, and distribution notes.

• Input: Brand strategy and content pillars from Step 1, platform constraints and best practices (character limits, optimal posting times, format preferences), and the user's available content creation time
• Output: 4-week content calendar with 8-12 content pieces mapped to content pillars, each with: topic, format (text post, article, carousel, video), key points, target audience segment, and call to action. Also includes a content repurposing plan (how one idea becomes multiple pieces).
• Key focus: Start with one format and one platform. Most professionals should begin with LinkedIn text posts (2-3 per week) because they require the least production effort and reach the most professional audiences. Content should follow the 70-20-10 rule: 70% valuable insights and practical advice, 20% personal stories and experiences, 10% direct promotion (consulting services, products, or career news). Every post should teach something, share a unique experience, or provoke useful reflection.

Step 4: Create and Publish Content (uses: linkedin-post)

Write the first batch of content pieces following the content calendar from Step 3. This step focuses on the actual writing craft of professional social media content that generates engagement and builds authority.

Step 5: Analyze Audience and Refine Strategy (uses: audience-analysis)

Identify the content that generated real outcomes (profile visits, connection requests from target audience, inbound messages about consulting or opportunities) and create more content like it. If a content pillar consistently underperforms, replace it with a topic the audience has shown interest in.

Decision Points

• At Step 1: If the user's goal is B2B thought leadership (attracting consulting clients, speaking opportunities, or industry influence among professionals), LinkedIn should be the primary platform and all content should be professional and insight-driven. If the user's goal is B2C influence (building a public following, attracting media attention, or reaching consumers), the platform choice depends on the audience: Instagram and TikTok for visual and lifestyle content, Twitter/X for commentary and news-adjacent content, YouTube for long-form educational content.

• At Step 1: If the user is choosing between niche and broad positioning, the workflow strongly recommends niche for the first 6-12 months. "The person who writes about B2B SaaS content marketing" is discoverable and memorable. "The person who writes about marketing" is neither. Niche positioning can expand later once the audience base is established.

• At Step 3: If the user's available content creation time is less than 3 hours per week, limit to 2 text posts per week on one platform only. If the user has 5-8 hours per week, they can add a weekly long-form article or newsletter. If the user has 10+ hours, they can consider multi-platform distribution. Never sacrifice consistency for volume -- 2 posts per week for 6 months outperforms 10 posts per week for 3 weeks followed by silence.

• After Step 5: If content is not gaining traction after 6 weeks of consistent posting (fewer than 10 average engagements per post on LinkedIn with 500+ connections), audit three things before quitting: (a) posting times (try different days and times), (b) hook quality (are the first lines compelling?), and (c) audience alignment (are the topics relevant to the user's connection base?). • User wants to change direction mid-workflow: If during Step 3-4 the user realizes their chosen niche is not sustainable (they run out of ideas or lose interest), this is a positioning problem, not a commitment problem. Return to Step 1 and explore adjacent niches that overlap with the user's genuine interests. The LinkedIn profile and content creation skills transfer -- only the topics change.

• User has a very small network (fewer than 200 connections): Before starting content creation in Step 4, spend 2 weeks in network-building mode: connect with 10-20 relevant professionals per day on LinkedIn with personalized connection requests. Content performs poorly with a small network because the algorithm has too few people to show it to. Target 500+ connections before expecting meaningful content engagement.
