Process

1. Assess the children's ages and needs. The approach changes significantly by developmental stage:

2. Have the age-appropriate conversation about the move:

   For Preschoolers (3-5):

   • Tell them 2-3 weeks before the move (longer creates too much anticipation anxiety)
   • Use concrete, simple language: "We are going to live in a new house. Your toys and your bed are coming with us."
   • Read 2-3 picture books about moving together
   • Visit the new home if possible so they can see it is a real place
   • Let them help pack their own special box of favorite items

   For Elementary (6-10):
