When to Use
- Setting up a new EDS project and deciding which skills to install.
- Onboarding a developer or agency to an existing EDS project.
- Planning a sprint and identifying which skills accelerate the planned work.
- Auditing an EDS project to find gaps where a skill could automate manual work.
- Comparing skills to understand which one handles a given task.
Do NOT Use For
- Actually executing skills (use the recommended skill directly).
- Building new skills (use skill-creator).
- Modifying skill source code (use standard development workflows).
- Non-EDS AEM work (Cloud Service, 6.5 LTS have separate skill sets).

Step 0: Create TodoList
Before starting, create a TodoList to track progress:
- Load current skill index
- Analyze project structure
- Match skills to project needs
- Generate adoption plan
- Output recommendations
Update each item as you complete it.
Step 1: Load Current Skill Index
Read the reference file at references/adobe-eds-skill-index.md to load the current catalog of all Adobe EDS skills.
If the reference file is outdated (check the last_updated field against today's date), optionally refresh by scanning the adobe/skills repo:

The reference file contains:
- Every official Adobe EDS skill with name, description, category, and trigger conditions
- Project management skills (handover, authoring guides, admin docs)
- Content ops skills contributed by the community
- Skill dependency map (which skills invoke other skills)
Success criteria:
- Skill index loaded into context
- Index freshness verified
Step 2: Analyze Project Structure
Scan the current project to understand its shape:

From the scan, identify:
- Project maturity: New (boilerplate only), active development, production
- Block count: How many custom blocks exist
- Content sources: Google Docs, SharePoint, DA, local HTML
- Tooling: Linting, testing, CI/CD presence
- Recent focus areas: What the team has been working on (from git log)
- Gaps: Missing standard files, outdated boilerplate, no testing
Success criteria:
- Project structure documented
- Maturity level identified
- Active work patterns understood
Step 3: Match Skills to Project Needs
Using the project analysis from Step 2 and the skill index from Step 1, score each skill's relevance:
Scoring criteria (1-5):
- Immediacy: How soon would this skill be useful? (5 = today, 1 = maybe someday)
- Impact: How much time/effort does it save? (5 = hours per week, 1 = minutes occasionally)
- Fit: Does the project's current state support this skill? (5 = ready now, 1 = needs prerequisites)
Categorize each skill into one of four buckets:

Dependency awareness: Some skills require others. For example:

Always recommend prerequisites alongside their dependents.
Success criteria:
- Every relevant skill scored
- Skills grouped into buckets
- Dependencies identified
Step 4: Generate Adoption Plan
Produce a prioritized adoption plan with three timeframes:
Immediate (This Week)
Skills the team should activate right now based on current work patterns.
Short-Term (This Sprint / Next 2 Weeks)
Skills that will pay off as soon as the team starts the next planned work.
Medium-Term (This Quarter)
Skills to adopt as the project matures or new workstreams begin.
For each recommended skill, provide:
- Skill name and one-line description
- Why: Specific reason tied to this project's structure or goals
- How to activate: Installation command or plugin reference
- First use: A concrete scenario from this project where the skill would help
Success criteria:
- Prioritized timeline with rationale
- Concrete activation steps for each skill
- First-use scenarios tied to actual project state
Step 5: Output Recommendations
Present the final output in this format:

Keeping the Catalog Current
The reference index should be refreshed periodically. Two approaches:
Manual Refresh
Run this skill with the --refresh flag or ask: "Refresh the EDS skill catalog from the latest adobe/skills repo."
The refresh process:
- Clone or pull the latest
adobe/skillsrepo - Scan all
SKILL.mdfiles underplugins/aem/edge-delivery-services/ - Extract name, description, version, and dependency info
- Update
references/adobe-eds-skill-index.md - Commit the updated reference file
Automated Refresh (Cron)
Set up a scheduled task to refresh weekly:

Troubleshooting

Key Principles
- Context over completeness. A targeted recommendation of 5 skills beats a dump of all 20+. Match skills to what the team actually needs now.
- Dependencies are non-negotiable. Never recommend a skill without its prerequisites.
- Project maturity matters. A brand-new project needs
create-siteandcontent-driven-development. A production project needscode-reviewand testing skills. Don't recommend setup skills to a mature project. - Skills are force multipliers, not replacements. Frame recommendations around what repetitive work they eliminate, not what developers they replace.
- Refresh proactively. The Adobe skills repo evolves. A stale index leads to missed recommendations or suggesting deprecated skills.
Anti-Patterns
- Installing everything — Skill overload creates noise. Be selective based on actual project needs.
- Ignoring dependencies — Installing
building-blockswithoutcontent-modelingcreates a broken workflow. - Recommending migration skills to greenfield projects — A new site doesn't need
page-importoraem-to-eds-migration. - Static recommendations — Revisit the catalog as the project evolves. A skill scored "Later" three months ago might be "Essential" now.
- Skipping project analysis — Generic recommendations without understanding the project structure provide little value over reading the skill list directly.
