Universal So-What

Standards do not erode at their center — they erode at their exceptions. The small task done sloppily because it was small, the casual reply done carelessly because the tone was casual, the late work done thinly because the session ran long: each exception teaches the system that the standard is situational. The lock is the counter-doctrine: the ceiling is set once, at the top, and nothing — task size, tone, fatigue, frustration — moves it. Effort scales. The standard does not.
