🌐 Multi-Language Translation Pattern

Problem: API Data in Single Language

When building multi-language content from APIs that return data in only one language (e.g., Swedish Riksdag API), automated scripts can translate UI chrome but cannot translate dynamic content. Only LLMs can provide natural, context-aware translations.

Solution: Translation Markers + LLM Post-Processing

Pattern Implementation:

1. Generation Script marks untranslated content:

Example: Riksdagsmonitor News Generation

Challenge: Generate news articles in 14 languages from Swedish-only Riksdag API

Implementation (current aggregate+render pipeline):

1. Aggregation (scripts/aggregate-analysis.ts):

   • Concatenates the per-day artifacts in analysis/daily/$DATE/$SUB/
   • Strips duplicate H1s and admin footers, rewrites relative links
   • Writes a single canonical article.md per analysis day/subfolder

2. Render (scripts/render-articles.ts + scripts/render-lib/):

   • unified / remark / rehype markdown → sanitised HTML
   • Emits news/$DATE-$SUB-en.html and news/$DATE-$SUB-sv.html
   • JSON-LD NewsArticle cites every source artifact

3. Translation (.github/workflows/news-translate.md):

   • Standalone agentic workflow that reads the rendered EN+SV HTML
   • Produces the remaining 12 language variants out-of-band
   • Never invoked by the per-type news workflows

4. Validation (scripts/validate-news-translations.ts):

   • Run as CI check: npm run validate-news
   • Scans all non-Swedish articles for data-translate markers and BCP-47 consistency
   • Fails build if untranslated content found

Results:

• ✅ Single source of truth (analysis/daily/$DATE/$SUB/)

• ✅ Translations decoupled from per-type generation
