• "I hear that you're frustrated. Let's schedule a meeting with [principal] so we can all be on the same page."

Bottom line: You cannot force a parent to engage. But you can document your efforts and provide ongoing support to the student.

✅ GOOD: "I'll call you Tuesday at 3pm. What's the best number?" — specific commitment with documentation

❌ BAD: Meeting with student only when there's a problem
✅ GOOD: Weekly brief check-ins even when things are going well — builds relationship

❌ BAD: Deciding plan FOR student
✅ GOOD: Co-creating plan WITH student — builds ownership and buy-in

❌ BAD: Sharing student's struggles with other teachers casually
✅ GOOD: Only share on need-to-know basis with educational justification
