Evaluation signals
- Outlier weight vector is binary (0 or 1) with length equal to number of anchor points; verify no NA values introduced.
- Selected k value lies within the candidate range (e.g., 12–20) and cross-validation error is minimized at that k; inspect the cross-validation curve for a clear optimum.
- Fitted spline passes through or near non-downweighted anchor points; residual sum of squares for retained observations should be lower than a model without filtering.
