School Visits

Designs a school farm visit that is safe, curriculum-connected, and worth repeating.

A good school visit achieves one thing: it makes children feel that food comes from somewhere alive, tended by people who know it. Everything else — the curriculum tick-boxes, the safety forms, the activity schedule — is scaffolding around that central experience. Design from the central experience outward, not from the admin inward.

Age-group calibration:

Visit structure (2-hour visit):

1. Arrival and orientation (15 min) — where they are, what happens here, safety rules in plain language. One compelling image or fact: "This soil has more living organisms in a teaspoon than there are people on earth."

2. Soil moment (20–30 min) — every visit, every age. Give each child a jar of water and some soil. Watch it settle. Pull a soil core. Count earthworms in a sample. The biology is visible and it works every time.

3. Main activity (45–60 min) — age-calibrated from the table above. Plant something, harvest something, make something. If nothing is ready to harvest, this is a failure point — plan the visit calendar around what the farm has ready.

Workshops

Plans and runs a practical farm workshop — one day to multi-day — that delivers genuine skill transfer.

A workshop is not a lecture with activities. It is a structured experience in which participants leave having done something they could not do before. The farm's job is to set up the conditions; the participant does the learning. Design the doing sequence first, then the explanation that supports it.

Learning Farm

A learning farm is not a farm that sometimes runs workshops. It is a farm in which education is a designed, integrated enterprise with its own identity, calendar, partnerships, and revenue model. The distinction matters because the investment required — in infrastructure, time, and coordination — only pays if education is treated as a proper enterprise, not an add-on.

Not every farm runs all three. Start with access (lower commitment, builds audience), develop skill (validates topics and demand), add depth only when the farm has the operational capacity to support extended learners.

Online education is not a lesser version of in-person learning. It is a different format that does different things: it reaches people who cannot come to the farm, it builds an audience before they arrive, and it creates income that does not require your physical presence.
