Mobile UX
Overview
Mobile design is constrained by screen size, input method, context of use, and platform expectations. Great mobile UX feels native, fast, and focused.
When to Use
- Designing native or mobile-web experiences
- Adapting desktop patterns to mobile
- Improving mobile conversion or task completion
- Handling offline, interruption, and one-handed use cases
Core Practices
- Follow platform conventions (iOS HIG, Material) unless breaking them adds clear value
- Design for touch targets, thumb zones, and gestures
- Prioritize content and primary actions ruthlessly
- Account for interruptions, variable network, and on-the-go use
- Test on real devices, not only simulators
Principles
- One primary task per screen when possible
- Performance and perceived speed are UX features
- Navigation should be reachable and obvious
- Don’t simply shrink desktop UI
Verification
- Critical tasks work comfortably with one hand where expected
- Touch targets meet size guidelines
- Platform patterns are respected or intentionally improved
