The golden rule of warm intros: Make it ONE click for the introducer. Pre-written forward. Clear context. Low social risk. If they have to write the intro themselves, most won't.

Cold Email A: The Traction Lead (highest success rate)

Phase 4: The First Meeting

Your goal: Get the second meeting. Not to close.

Structure (30 min):

1. Opening (3 min): "Here's what we do, here's our traction, here's why now." No preamble. No "thanks for taking the time."
2. The story (15 min): Problem → why existing solutions fail → our approach → traction → team → vision. Show product screen, not slides.
3. Q&A (10 min): Answer directly. "I don't know" > guessing. Ask them questions too — good VCs want to be engaged, not pitched at.

What to NEVER say in a first VC meeting:

• "We're going to be a $10B company" (every founder says this — means nothing)
• "We have no competitors" (means you haven't done research, or there's no market)
• "We'll capture 1% of this $100B market" (top-down TAM = red flag)
• "Our projections are conservative" (they never are)
• "I can't share our numbers until we have an NDA" (VCs don't sign NDAs)
• "We're fundraising — the round is closing fast" (artificial urgency is transparent)

What to ALWAYS say:

• Specific traction numbers. Month-by-month. Not "growing fast" — "grew 12% MoM for the past 6 months."
• What you've learned from customers. Specific quotes. Specific problems.
• What keeps you up at night. VCs respect honest risk assessment.
• Why YOU are the right team. What unique insight or experience do you have?

Phase 5: Follow-Up

After every meeting:

Angel Investors

Quality Check

Before delivering, verify:

• Named frameworks or sources are reflected in the recommendation
• The deliverable is specific enough for an agent to execute
• Any assumptions, risks, or dependencies are explicit
• No unsupported claims, invented facts, or private/internal references are included

Common Pitfalls

1. Raising without building the line. You show up as a cold "dot" and wonder why response rates are 1%. Fix: Start monthly updates 6-12 months before raising. Build the line. Show the trend.

2. Generic cold emails. "Dear Investor, we're revolutionizing..." is deleted in under 3 seconds. Fix: Lead with specific traction. "We're at $X ARR growing X% MoM" earns 30 seconds of attention.

3. Asking for money in the first email. "We're raising $5M on $30M pre" in a cold email = asking a stranger to marry you on the first date. Fix: First contact: "I'd love your perspective." Not "I'd love your money."

4. Spraying 200 VCs simultaneously. They talk to each other. When 5 VCs get the same email and compare notes, you look amateur. Fix: Tier your outreach. A-list gets personalized attention. C-list gets batch if needed.

5. No follow-up after the meeting. A VC meets 20 founders a week. If you don't follow up within 2 hours, they forget which one you were. Fix: Follow-up email sent before you leave the parking lot. Every meeting.

6. Artificial urgency. "The round is closing fast — we need an answer by Friday." This works exactly once: when it's true. VCs have seen it faked 1,000 times. Fix: Real urgency is traction and competing term sheets, not fabricated deadlines.
