Part 3: Algorithm & Best Practices
3.1 What the Algorithm Rewards
| Signal | Weight | How to Optimize |
|---|---|---|
| Early engagement (1st hour) | Very high | Post when audience active; reply immediately |
| Comment quality | High | Reply to all within 2h; long replies > emoji |
| Time spent on post | High | Scannable but substantive |
| Saves / Bookmarks | High | Actionable, save-for-later content |
| Shares with thought | Very high | Write shareable; ask for reposts |
| External clicks | Low–Mod | Put links in first comment, not body |
3.2 Posting Cadence
| Frequency | Best For |
|---|---|
| 1x/week | Busy executives |
| 3x/week (Mon/Wed/Fri) | Individual contributors |
| 5x/week | Full-time creators |
| 7x/week | Diminishing returns |
Best times: Tue–Thu 8–10 AM, 12–1 PM, 5–6 PM. Mon 11 AM–12 PM. Fri 9–11 AM.
3.3 Comment Strategy
YOUR POSTS → Reply to all within 1h, ask follow-ups, 2-3 line replies
OTHERS' POSTS → 15 min/day on 5-10 industry posts, add value, be in first 10 comments
3.4 Connection Strategy
- Daily: 15–25 personalized requests. Never blank.
- Weekly: Engage 5 new connections' content before DM
- Monthly: Purge inactive (no post 90 days)
3.5 LinkedIn SEO
Place keywords in: first 120 chars of headline → full 220-char headline → first 600 chars of About → current role description → top 3 skills.
Common Pitfalls
- 5:1 value-to-promotion ratio: More than 1 promo per 5 posts kills reach.
- No comment engagement: Scheduling without reply-time destroys reach.
- External links in first 24h: LinkedIn downranks posts with links. Put in comments.
- Blank connection requests: 70%+ decline rate.
- Hashtag stuffing: 3–5 max. 10+ reduces reach.
- Copy-paste from other platforms: LinkedIn-native content performs best.
- Engagement bait: "Like if you agree" triggers penalties. Use genuine questions.
- Stale Featured section: Refresh every 2–4 weeks.
