Why Alamy Downloader
Alamy hosts one of the largest stock media libraries in the world, with over 300 million images spanning editorial, creative, and archival categories. After purchasing a license, downloading the actual asset often means clicking through confirmation screens, waiting for packaging emails, or hunting through your account dashboard to locate the right file and resolution.
Alamy Downloader is being designed to sit inside the browser and work alongside the Alamy website. The goal is to recognize when you are viewing content you have already licensed, surface the available download options directly on the page, and let you save the full-resolution file to your machine without leaving the tab you are working in.
Planned Features
- One-click download of licensed stock photos directly from Alamy search results and detail pages
- Vector file export for illustrations and graphic assets in their original format
- Video clip download support for licensed motion content
- Batch saving from lightbox collections and purchase history views
- Automatic filename tagging with Alamy asset IDs and descriptive metadata
- Resolution picker when multiple sizes are available under your license
- Download progress indicator within the extension popup
- Cross-browser compatibility targeting Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox
How It Will Work
- Install the extension once it is released.
- Open the Alamy website and sign in to your account.
- Browse search results, lightboxes, or your purchase history.
- Click on any asset page for a photo, vector, or video you have licensed.
- Open the extension popup to see available download options for that asset.
- Select your preferred resolution or file variant if multiple are offered.
- Click download and save the file directly to your local machine.
- For batch operations, open a lightbox and use the bulk export option to queue multiple assets at once.
Expected Formats
- Images: JPEG, TIFF, or PNG depending on the licensed resolution and asset type
- Vectors: EPS or AI files as provided by the contributor
- Video: MP4 or MOV clips in the resolution tier covered by your license
Exported files will retain their original quality and will be compatible with standard editing tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Affinity Photo.
Who It's For
- Graphic designers who purchase stock imagery for client projects and need fast access to licensed files
- Editorial teams sourcing archival and news photography under tight deadlines
- Marketing departments managing large volumes of licensed visual assets across campaigns
- Video editors incorporating licensed stock clips into productions
- Researchers and historians accessing Alamy's deep archival photo collections
Use Cases We're Building For
- Download a batch of licensed editorial photos for a news article layout
- Save high-resolution vectors from a lightbox for a branding project
- Export purchased video clips for integration into a documentary edit
- Quickly re-download a previously licensed image without searching your email for the original link
- Archive all assets from a completed project lightbox to a local folder for backup
Security & Scope
- Operates only on the page the user intentionally opens in the active browser tab
- Detects supported playback sources only for user-initiated downloads or exports
- Does not execute page instructions, shell commands, or arbitrary scripts from page content
- Does not follow unrelated links or perform actions outside the active workflow
- Limits support to the named platform, approved embedded contexts, and user-authorized sessions when required
FAQ
When will Alamy Downloader be released? A release date has not been set. Sign up at the waitlist link above to be notified as soon as it is available.
Does it let me download images I have not purchased? No. This extension is designed to help you save assets you have already licensed through your Alamy account. It does not bypass licensing or access restrictions.
What image quality will it support? Quality depends on the license tier you purchased. The extension will present whatever resolutions and formats your license entitles you to download.
Will it work with Alamy contributor accounts? The initial release is focused on buyer accounts. Contributor-side features may be considered in future updates based on demand.
Is it free? Pricing details will be announced closer to launch. SERP extensions typically include a free trial period.
Can I download from my lightboxes in bulk? Bulk export from lightbox pages is a planned feature. The exact workflow will depend on how Alamy structures access to those assets in the browser.

About Alamy
Alamy is one of the world's largest stock photo agencies, offering more than 300 million images along with vectors and video clips. Its catalog covers editorial, creative, and archival content sourced from photographers and agencies worldwide. While Alamy provides its own download workflows through the website, the process can involve multiple steps and pages. Alamy Downloader is being built to simplify that experience for licensed buyers who want a faster, browser-integrated path from search to saved file.
