Overview
This skill enables writing and rewriting in the style of Wang Xiaobo (王小波), one of China's most influential essayists. His style is defined by three interlocking layers: rigorous logic (三段论推演、归谬法), intellectual playfulness (知识密度、场景化写作), and deadpan dark humor (逻辑尽头的荒诞). The skill is based on a deep analysis of his essay collection 《我的精神家园》(45 essays), extracting seven reproducible techniques.
When to Use
Activate this skill when the user:
- Explicitly requests "王小波风格"、"小波风格"、"王小波式" or "wangxiaobo style"
- Wants to transform academic/professional Chinese text into engaging, accessible prose
- Needs to write popular science (科普) articles with logical rigor and humor
- Asks to analyze whether a piece of text exhibits 王小波-style characteristics
- Requests rewriting with "归谬法"、"逻辑推演"、"花剌子模信使" or any technique from the reference
Core Workflow
Step 1: Load the reference
Before writing, load references/王小波行文风格深度分析.md to internalize the full analysis. The reference contains:
- Detailed breakdown of each technique with original text examples
- The three-layer model (趣味性 → 逻辑性 → 诚实)
- Before/after examples of how to transform text
- Templates for each of the seven techniques
Step 2: Understand the target content
Identify the core message the user wants to convey. 王小波风格 never sacrifices logical rigor for humor — humor is a byproduct of rigorous thinking, not an additive decoration.
Step 3: Apply the seven techniques
Choose the most appropriate techniques from the seven below. Not all techniques are needed for every piece — select based on the content and purpose.
(Syllogistic Deduction)
Structure a paragraph as: premise → strict deduction → absurd/counterintuitive conclusion. The conclusion itself becomes the satire.
Template:
(Reductio ad Absurdum)
Push the opponent's logic to its extreme until it self-destructs. Each step must be independently verifiable.
Template:
(Abstract Model Creation)
Create a reusable story-model (person + place + mechanism) that encapsulates a complex social or intellectual pattern. Once created, the model can be referenced by name in future writing.
Key: The model must be simple enough to explain in one sentence, yet rich enough to reuse.
(Concrete Scene Replacement)
Never argue at the abstract level. Instead: translate an abstract concept into a concrete, sensory scene → observe how it operates → derive a conclusion deeper than abstract debate could reach.
(Personal Experience over Citation)
Use personal experience as evidence rather than citing authorities. Examples from 王小波: his 插队 (rustication) experiences, studying abroad in America, factory work, childhood memories. Personal experience is unrefutable — readers can only choose to trust or distrust, and trust is built on perceived honesty.
(Precise Numbers as Foreign Bodies)
Insert a precise number or quantitative comparison into an otherwise literary/emotional passage. This creates a "scientist's presence" that signals the writer is calculating, not just emoting.
Example: Instead of "北京城墙很宽", write "假如有两个帕瓦罗蒂那样的人在上面并肩行走，罗马城的城墙就得掉下来一个".
(Downward Ending)
Never end with a grand summary or uplifting升华. Instead, end by sinking downward — returning to a specific, personal, almost mundane image or feeling. This downward movement paradoxically makes the weight of the essay land fully on the reader.
Step 4: Layer the three depths
The best 王小波-style writing has three layers visible to the careful reader:
- Surface (趣味性): Engaging, readable, full of interesting knowledge and stories
- Middle (逻辑性): A complete logical argument hidden beneath the stories — premise, reasoning, counterargument, conclusion
- Deep (诚实): An unshakable commitment to intellectual honesty. The core belief: "人可以傻，但不能骗自己" (One can be foolish, but one must not deceive oneself)
Step 5: Self-check
After writing, verify:
- Is every humorous moment a consequence of logic, not a standalone joke?
- Are abstract concepts replaced with concrete scenes?
- Does the ending sink downward rather than rise upward?
- Is there at least one moment of honest self-reflection?
- Could the reader follow the logical chain without being told what to think?
Key Prohibitions
Never do the following when writing in 王小波 style:
- No 抖机灵 (cheap wit): Humor must emerge from logic, not from puns or clever one-liners
- No 排比句煽情 (parallel-structure emotional manipulation): 王小波 never uses rhetorical parallelism to stir emotion
- No 引经据典 (excessive citation): Rarely cite authorities; use personal experience as evidence
- No 拔高升华 (uplifting ending): Never conclude with "前景光明" or similar grand statements
- No 抽象辩论 (abstract debate): Always ground arguments in concrete, sensory detail

Examples
Before (academic):
After (王小波 style):
