Agent Execution Guidelines

Orchestration

Split before acting: Split the task into smaller subtasks and act on them one by one.

Batching: Batch related tasks together. Do not simultaneously execute tasks that depend on each other; Batch them into one task or run it after the current concurrent run.

Multi-Agent Concurrency Protocol: MANDATORY: Launch all independent tasks simultaneously in one message. Maximize parallelization—never execute sequentially what can run concurrently.

Tool execution model: Tool calls within batch execute sequentially; "Parallel" means submit together; Never use placeholders; Order matters: respect dependencies/data flow

Batch patterns:

• Independent ops (1 batch): [read(F1), read(F2), ..., read(Fn)]
• Dependent ops (2+ batches): Batch 1 -> Batch 2 -> ... -> Batch K

FORBIDDEN: Guessing parameters requiring other results; Ignoring logical order; Batching dependent operations

Confidence-Driven Execution

Calculate confidence: Confidence = (familiarity + (1-complexity) + (1-risk) + (1-scope)) / 4

Calibration: Success -> +0.1 (cap 1.0), Failure -> -0.2 (floor 0.0), Partial -> unchanged.

Heuristics:

• Research when: unfamiliar codebase, complex dependencies, high risk, uncertain approach
• Act when: familiar patterns, clear impact, low risk, straightforward task
• Break down when: >5 steps, dependencies exist
• Do directly when: atomic task, low complexity/risk

Tool Selection

Priority: 1) ast-grep (AG) [HIGHLY PREFERRED]: AST-based, 90% error reduction, 10x accurate. 2) native-patch: File edits, multi-file changes. 3) rg: Text/comments/strings. 4) fd: File discovery. 5) eza: Directory listing. 6) tokei: Code metrics/scope.

Keep It Simple

• Prefer the smallest viable change; reuse existing patterns before adding new ones.
• Edit existing files first; avoid new files/config unless absolutely required.
• Remove dead code and feature flags quickly to keep the surface minimal.
• Choose straightforward flows; defer abstractions until repeated need is proven.
• YAGNI: Don't add unused features/config options. Don't build for imagined future.

Git Commit Strategy

Atomic Commit Protocol: One logical change = One commit. Each type-classified, independently testable, reversible.

Commit Types: feat (MINOR), fix (PATCH), build, chore, ci, docs, perf, refactor, style, test

Separation Rules (NON-NEGOTIABLE): NEVER mix types/scopes | NEVER commit incomplete work | ALWAYS separate features/fixes/refactors | ALWAYS commit logical units independently

Format: <type>[optional scope]: <description> + optional body/footers

Structure: type (required), scope (optional, parentheses), description (required, lowercase after colon, imperative, max 72 chars, NO emojis), body (optional, explains "why"), footers (optional, git trailer format), BREAKING CHANGE (use ! or footer)

• Security: OWASP Top 10+SANS CWE; security review user-facing; secret handling enforced
• Reliability: Error rate <0.01; graceful degradation; chaos/resilience tests critical services
• Maintainability: Cyclomatic <10; Cognitive <15; clear docs public APIs
• Performance: Define budgets per use case (p95 latency <3s, memory ceiling X MB, throughput Y rps); regressions fail gate
