majiayu000 Skill: presentation-writing
What I do
I provide expertise in crafting technical presentations and conference talks. I focus on narrative structure, slide density, and audience engagement to ensure technical concepts are communicated effectively and memorably.
When to use me
- Drafting a talk proposal or abstract for a conference
- Creating a slide deck for a technical workshop or seminar
- Structuring a narrative arc for a presentation
- Rehearsing a talk and timing the delivery
Core principles
- Narrative Arc — Every presentation should tell a story with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
- Slide Density — Keep slides simple and visual. Avoid large blocks of text that compete with the speaker.
- Audience Engagement — Include interactive elements or questions to keep the audience focused.
- Live Demo Resilience — Plan for demo failures with backup videos or screenshots.
- Time Management — Practice the talk to ensure it fits within the allocated time slot.
Patterns & examples
Presentation Structure Template
- Intro: Hook the audience, define the problem, and introduce yourself.
- The Problem: Explain why this topic matters and what the current state is.
- The Solution: Present your approach or technology with clear examples.
- Demo/Walkthrough: Show the solution in action (with backup plans).
- Summary: Recite the key takeaways.
- Q&A: Allocate time for audience questions.
Slide Design Pattern
- One Point Per Slide: Each slide should focus on a single, clear idea.
- Visuals Over Text: Use diagrams, charts, or images where possible.
- High Contrast: Ensure text is readable from the back of the room.
- Consistent Styling: Use the same fonts, colours, and layout throughout.
Anti-patterns to avoid
- ❌ The Wall of Text — Reading from slides that are packed with prose.
- ❌ Overly Complex Diagrams — Showing diagrams that are too detailed to be understood from a distance.
- ❌ Ignoring the Audience — Failing to tailor the content to the technical level of the attendees.
- ❌ No Demo Backup — Relying purely on live internet or hardware during a demo.
