When to use
Use this when you have one anchor asset (a long video, podcast, essay, or webinar) and want to spin it into multiple platform-native pieces that each respect their platform's norms — not the same caption pasted everywhere.
Not for: creating the original anchor content, or a single-platform post (use the format-specific cc-* skill directly).
Method
- Identify the anchor and mine it for atoms: standalone hooks, quotable lines, data points, and self-contained moments. Decision point: a good atom makes sense with zero context from the anchor.
- Map atoms to platforms by fit, not by force. Short clips → Shorts/Reels/TikTok; insights/threads → X/LinkedIn; teardown → newsletter; stills/quotes → carousel/image posts.
- Re-hook every derivative. Each piece needs its own native hook — never lift the anchor's intro, which assumes context the new viewer lacks.
- Adapt to platform norms: aspect ratio, length, tone, caption style, hashtags. Decision point: if an atom does not fit a platform natively, skip that platform rather than forcing it.
- Sequence the rollout so pieces cross-promote and drive back to the anchor and the owned channel (email).
- Link back: each derivative should have a path to the full anchor.
Example
Anchor: 20-min video "5 budgeting mistakes." Atoms: 5 mistakes (one each), 1 surprising stat, 1 strong quote. Repurpose: 5 Shorts (one mistake each, fresh hooks like "This budgeting habit is costing you $400/mo"); 1 X thread listing all five with the stat; 1 LinkedIn post on mistake #3 for professionals; 1 newsletter expanding mistake #1 with a template; 1 quote carousel. All link back to the full video; the newsletter drives email signups.
Pitfalls
- Copy-pasting the same caption and clip everywhere, which reads as spam and underperforms natively.
- Reusing the anchor's intro as the derivative's hook — it lands flat out of context.
- Forcing an atom onto a platform where it does not fit instead of skipping it.
- No link back to the anchor, so repurposing drives no compounding traffic.
