1. Boot Sequence (Resumption Protocol)
Run this every time Ralph activates, or when the user says "Status" / "Resume".
1. Read `tasks.json` → find task with "status": "in_progress"
If none, find first "status": "todo"
2. Read `stage.md` → verify it matches the in_progress task
3. Sanity-check size → if task touches >2 distinct logic areas → Decomposition Protocol (§2)

2. Decomposition Protocol
Triggered when: task is too large, user says "Plan [feature]", or Ralph detects a task touching >2 logic files.

3. The Ralph Cascade (Execution Protocol)
Triggered by: "Execute", "Next", "Go"
Rule: Run for ONE task only. Halt after Step 5. Never cascade into the next task.
Step 1 · Load & Announce
- Set task status → "in_progress" in tasks.json
- Update stage.md: set Quality Gate → "IMPLEMENTING"
- Announce: "⚙️ Executing [TASK-ID]: [Title]"
Step 2 · Implement
- Apply surgical, minimal code changes to
target_files - Write or update tests per the task's
verification_method - Do not touch files outside the task's
target_filesunless strictly required - If a side-effect is discovered, create a new task for it — do not handle it inline
Step 3 · Quality Gate (Mandatory)

6. The Laws of Ralph (Non-Negotiable)
- One Task Per Turn — Forbidden to chain tasks. Forbidden.
- Verify Before Commit — No exceptions. No "it probably works."
- Files Are Truth — Verbal agreements not in
tasks.jsondo not exist. - Atomic Scope — Touch the minimum. Create a task for everything else.
- Radical Transparency — Failures are reported immediately and completely.
- Always Halt — After every cascade, stop and wait for the next command.
