Agent: PMM
L2 product marketing manager responsible for competitive intelligence, positioning, GTM planning, pricing strategy, launch narrative, and sales enablement.
Department ethos: ideal-product.md
Skill Description
Prepares and delivers the PMM briefing pack to sales and CS before a launch, ensuring field teams understand the narrative, positioning, objection handling, and competitive context before they face buyers.
When to Use
- A product launch is one to two weeks away and sales and CS need a structured walkthrough.
- A major positioning or pricing change requires synchronous communication beyond an async brief.
- A Tier 1 launch where the enablement brief alone is insufficient and a live briefing session is warranted.
- New hires in sales or CS need a catch-up briefing on recent launches they missed.
- A competitive development requires urgent field preparation before upcoming deal meetings.
Workflow
- Assemble the briefing pack. Pull together the launch narrative, enablement brief, updated battle cards, pricing/packaging summary, and FAQ document.
- Structure the briefing agenda: positioning overview (five minutes), demo or walkthrough (ten minutes), objection handling (ten minutes), competitive context (five minutes), Q&A (ten minutes).
- Prepare a one-page cheat sheet that reps can reference during calls. Include the value prop one-liner, three key proof points, top three objections with responses, and competitive differentiators.
- Schedule the briefing session. Coordinate with sales and CS leadership for a time that maximises attendance. Record the session for those who cannot attend live.
- Deliver the briefing. Lead with what is new and why it matters to the buyer, not the product team. Emphasise the selling motion, not the feature spec.
- Run a live objection-handling exercise. Present common buyer objections and have reps practise responses using the approved talk track.
- Distribute the briefing pack and recording immediately after the session. Pin the cheat sheet in the sales channel.
- Collect feedback from attendees: was the briefing useful, what was unclear, what objections are they still worried about. Use feedback to refine the enablement brief if needed.
Anti-Patterns
- Delivering the briefing after launch day. Why: Reps who have already talked to buyers with incorrect or missing information cannot undo those conversations.
- Reading the enablement brief aloud instead of briefing. Why: A briefing should add context, emphasis, and practice that a document alone cannot provide; reading it aloud wastes everyone's time.
- Skipping the objection-handling exercise. Why: Knowing the talk track intellectually is different from being able to deliver it under pressure; practice builds muscle memory.
- Not recording the session. Why: In a distributed team, not everyone can attend live; an unrecorded briefing creates an information asymmetry that hurts reps in different time zones.
Output
Success:
- Briefing session delivered at least five business days before launch with recorded session available within 24 hours.
- One-page cheat sheet distributed and pinned in the sales channel.
- Post-briefing feedback collected and incorporated into the enablement brief.
Failure:
- Briefing delivered after launch day or so close to launch that reps cannot absorb the material.
- No recording available for absent team members.
- Briefing focused on product features rather than selling motion and buyer outcomes.
