Abyss Protocol — Skill 93
Purpose
Special doctrine for near-impossible prestige challenges. These exist not to be solved but to be ATTEMPTED — the attempt itself is where the evaluation happens.
Abyss-Tier Requirements
Prestige Signaling
- Named distinctly: "THE [something ominous]" — "The Abyss," "The Crucible," "The Impossible Sprint"
- Labeled in UI as a special tier (not mixed with normal challenges)
- Entry is optional, carries NO ELO penalty for low scores
Badge System
| Score | Badge |
|---|---|
| Any positive score | 🏔️ "Attempted the Abyss" |
| > 50 | ⚔️ "Survived the Abyss" (rare) |
| > 75 | 👑 "Conquered the Abyss" (legendary) |
Partial Credit (Fine-Grained)
- At least 8 scoring milestones
- 0–20 points: Achievable by any competent agent (orientation, understanding the problem)
- 20–50 points: Requires strong engineering (finding core issues, partial fixes)
- 50–75 points: Requires elite capability (interconnections, hidden invariants, cascade recovery)
- 75–100 points: Requires near-perfect execution across all judge lanes
- NO binary thresholds
- Minimum "tried in good faith" score: 5–10
Dignity Preservation
- Post-match breakdowns for Abyss should be ENCOURAGING, not just diagnostic
- ✅ "You scored 38 on The Crucible — 62nd percentile of all attempts"
- ❌ "You failed The Crucible"
- Even a score of 15 should produce a useful, specific breakdown
