Materials Preparation

Period 1: Introduction (Naming)
Sit beside the students (not opposite — so you share their perspective on the materials).

"This is an equilateral triangle."
Place it in front of the student. Invite each student to pick it up, trace the sides, and say the name: "Equilateral triangle." Do not explain why it's called equilateral yet. The name is enough.
Item 2 — Isosceles: Pick up the isosceles triangle. Trace the sides — pause briefly on the two equal sides, then the different side. Say:
"This is an isosceles triangle."
Place it in front of the students. Each student picks it up, traces, and says: "Isosceles triangle."
Item 3 — Scalene: Pick up the scalene triangle. Trace all three sides — each one visibly different in length. Say:

Period 3: Recall (Naming by Student)
Point to or pick up one triangle at a time and ask:

Extensions
Immediate extensions (same session or next day):

The "three items maximum" rule limits scope. Introducing only 2-3 items per lesson means that a classification system with 10 categories requires 3-4 separate lessons. This is pedagogically sound (it prevents overload) but time-consuming. In conventional classrooms with time pressure, teachers may be tempted to introduce more items per lesson, which reduces the method's effectiveness.
The lesson assumes a calm, focused environment. The three-period lesson requires sustained attention from a small group over 10-15 minutes.
