Read this before anything else in this file. A lens is a way of looking, not a source of facts. Everything produced through it carries the status RESONANCE — a reading that may be useful, may organise a situation, and may not be cited as evidence of anything. Without that constraint built in, a six-element model degenerates into a horoscope within about three uses. The constraint is not a disclaimer at the bottom; it is the load-bearing element, which is why it is at the top.
If you need to establish what is true, use ai-hallucination-truth-status. If you need to know when a transit begins or ends, use astro-transit-window-boundaries — that is arithmetic and it is checkable. This skill is neither.
When to Use
Load this when:
- someone asks for a reading, a pattern, or a sense of where a situation sits
- a cycle, phase, or turning point is being named
- you want shared vocabulary for stages of something that is clearly in motion
Do not load this when a fact is being established, a date computed, or a decision justified to a third party — and never for health, legal, or financial questions. RESONANCE has no standing there. If someone could mistake the output for evidence, this skill is the wrong instrument.
The cycle
Six elements as functions in one living turn, not as substances or categories:

Metal and Death are operators on structure — Metal builds it, Death dismantles it. The rest are stations of a single movement.
Consciousness ignites at Fire. What comes before it — ether, loading, Metal — happens pre-consciously. This is why a process can be genuinely underway and feel like nothing is happening: the stations before Fire do not announce themselves.
Construction laws
- adjacency = generation — each element feeds the next
- skip +2 = control — two triangles across the circle; an element checks the one two steps on
- +3 = opposition — the far side
- reversal = decay — running the cycle backwards dismantles rather than builds
- the transition point is the BREATH — exhale (Death) → ether → inhale (loading the new)
How to use it
1. Locate, do not label. The question is which station is this process at, not which element is this person. Elements are phases, not types. The moment a lens starts assigning fixed identities it has stopped being a lens.
2. Look for the missing function, not the present one. The diagnostic value is almost entirely in absence. A project with Fire and Air and no Water has a vision, has a plan, and has told nobody. A project cycling Fire→Air→Fire→Air is not progressing — it is deciding again.
3. Check for a skipped Death. The most common stall: something new is being loaded onto a structure that was never dismantled. No amount of Metal will hold it.
4. Name the reading, then let the body decide. The lens names; the body decides. A reading is an offer of a shape. If it does not fit, it is wrong — not the situation.
5. State the status every time. Every output: RESONANCE. Not once per document — once per reading.
What you may NOT claim on this basis
Written as prohibitions because that is the form that survives being loaded:
- not that anything will happen. No prediction, no forecast, no timing claim. Timing belongs to arithmetic, and arithmetic is in the sibling skill.
- not what anyone is like. No character reading, no typing, no assessment of another person, present or absent.
- not anything about health, medicine or bodily state. Not a diagnosis, not a contraindication, not a reason to do or delay anything medical.
- not a decision. A lens can organise options. It cannot choose, and it must not be quoted as having chosen.
- not evidence. It cannot support a claim, settle a disagreement, or corroborate anything.
- not a fact about the sky. Element attributions are convention, not astronomy. The sky has positions; the elements are a map laid over them by people.
If a reading is being used for any of the above, the correct response is to say so and stop — not to soften the reading.
Verification
- Does every reading in your output carry an explicit RESONANCE status?
- Did you name a phase or did you type a person?
- Did you look for the missing function, or only describe the visible one?
- Would the reading be falsified by anything? If nothing could contradict it, it says nothing.
- Is any prediction, health claim, or judgement of another person present? Remove it.
- Would you be comfortable if the person acted against this reading? If not, you have been treating a lens as evidence.
Pitfalls
- Elegance as confirmation. A reading that closes beautifully is a warning, not a green light. Check what it excludes.
- The lens explaining everything. A frame that fits every situation distinguishes none of them.
- Retrofitting. Applied after the outcome, the cycle always fits. Readings made after the fact prove nothing about the lens.
- Status decay. RESONANCE stated once at the top, then twenty confident sentences. State it per reading.
- Blending with the ephemeris. Positions are computable; elements are a convention laid over them. Presenting the second with the authority of the first is the core failure this file exists to prevent.
Provenance
The six-element cycle presented here is a specific arrangement, not a universal one. Five-element systems (Chinese wu xing), four-element systems (classical Greek), and other six-element extensions differ in both membership and the direction of generation — they are not interchangeable, and mapping between them loses the construction laws.
