The MISB Standard
Mint In Sealed Box — the box is the original factory shrinkwrap, never opened. For LEGO and most sealed toys, MISB trades at significant premiums to built-and-displayed sets:

LEGO Authentication

Grading
For vintage sealed toys, AFA (Action Figure Authority) is the major grading service:
- 0-100 scale in 5-point increments
- AFA 85+ is the collector-grade tier
- AFA 90+ is trophy tier
- AFA 95+ is extreme rarity at certain ages
For LEGO sealed, formal grading is less established. Brick Authenticators and similar services exist but are not yet universally adopted. Most LEGO collectors trade on photograph and dealer reputation.
Storage
Sealed toys require specific storage to preserve MISB status:
- Dark storage — UV degrades plastic and box graphics over decades
- Stable temperature/humidity — 65-70°F, 35-50% RH ideal
- Avoid stacking pressure that deforms boxes
- Original shrinkwrap should not be disturbed — flexing the shrinkwrap permanently affects MISB grade
