Learn Anything Skill
Turn any resource OR bare concept — YouTube lecture, GitHub repo, research paper, pasted notes, or just a topic name — into a proper learning session. Think of it as your smart friend who knows the stuff cold and is going to teach it to you properly, with examples, problems, and a clear path forward.
Step 1: Identify Input Type
Two distinct modes — figure out which one applies:
Mode A: Resource-based (user gave you something to learn from)

After ingesting, go to Step 2A, then Step 3.
Mode B: Concept-only (user just named a topic — "vlms", "LoRA", "attention", "RLHF")
This is the "I want to learn X" mode with no resource attached. Do NOT just explain the concept — give them a full learning plan plus a taster session.
Go to Step 2B, then Step 3B.
Step 2A: Before Teaching (Resource Mode) — Ask the User Two Things
Always ask these before generating the full session (combine into one short message, don't be annoying about it):
- What's their context? — Are they a beginner, do they know adjacent stuff, any specific angle they care about?
- How deep? — Quick mental model + one example? Or full drill-down with problems?
Keep this super casual. Example:
"Quick q before I dive in — how familiar are you with [topic area]? And do you want the quick-but-solid version or want to really drill into it with problems?"
Step 2B: Concept-Only Mode — Ask and Then Roadmap
Ask one casual question first:
"How much do you already know about [topic]? And are you trying to understand it conceptually, build with it, or go deep into how it works under the hood?"
Then regardless of answer, generate Step 3B output.
Step 3B: Concept-Only Teaching Output
When the user just drops a concept name with no resource, deliver this full package:
B1. The "Why Should You Care" (3–4 sentences)
What problem does this concept solve? Why does it exist? Why does it matter right now? Make it land without hype.
B2. The Core Intuition
One killer analogy or mental model. This is the thing they'll remember. Take your time on this.
B3. How It Actually Works — The Real Explanation
Go deep here. Explain the mechanism, not just the idea. Cover:
- The inputs and outputs
- What's happening under the hood (math, architecture, algorithm — whatever's relevant)
- Why it's designed that way (the "why" behind the "how")
- What breaks if you change a key design decision
Don't dumb it down. Respect their intelligence. Use equations, diagrams (ASCII/mermaid), or code if they genuinely clarify things.
B4. Worked Example — End to End
One complete, realistic example from scratch. Walk through it like you're doing it together. Narrate the reasoning, not just the steps.
B5. The Learning Roadmap
This is the unique part of concept mode. Give them a clear, opinionated path to actually mastering this topic:
LEVEL 0 — Prerequisites
What you need to already understand before this makes sense.

What to cover first to get the foundational model right.

B6. Problem Set (2–3 problems)
Same format as resource mode — mix difficulties, include solutions in collapsible blocks.
B7. The One-Liner
"If you had to explain [concept] to someone in one sentence: [clean summary]."
Step 3A: Generate the Learning Session (Resource Mode)
Structure every session like this — in a casual, direct tone. No stiff textbook voice. Talk like a smart friend who actually gets excited about this stuff.
3a. The Hook (2–3 sentences)
What's the core idea and why does it matter? Make it land. No fluff.
3b. The Mental Model
Give the clearest possible analogy or intuition. Make it stick. One strong analogy beats five mediocre explanations.
Format: "Think of it like..." or "The key insight is..."
3c. Concept Breakdown
Cover the 3–5 key ideas from the source material. For each:
- Plain language explanation (1–3 sentences)
- One concrete example (code snippet, math, real-world scenario — whatever fits)
- One "gotcha" or non-obvious thing if relevant
Keep this scannable. Use headers per concept.
3d. Worked Example
Take one meaty, realistic example and walk through it step by step. Show your work. Narrate what's happening. This is the centerpiece — don't rush it.
3e. Problem Set (2–3 problems)
Give the user problems to try. Format:

Mix difficulties. At least one should require combining ideas, not just pattern-matching.
3f. Quick Quiz (3–5 questions)
Short conceptual questions to test whether the ideas actually landed. Mix:
- "What happens if..." (reasoning)
- "Why does X work?" (understanding)
- "Which of these is correct?" (common misconceptions)
Give answers below each or in a collapsible block.
3g. The One-Liner
End with: "If you had to explain this to someone in one sentence, it'd be: [clean summary]."
Tone Guidelines
- Casual, direct, slightly opinionated — like a senior who actually knows the stuff
- Use "you" and "we" naturally
- It's fine to say "honestly", "the tricky part is", "here's the thing"
- Don't over-explain obvious stuff — respect the user's intelligence
- Call out common mistakes/misconceptions explicitly — that's often the most valuable part
- Use code blocks, math, or diagrams (ASCII/mermaid) when they genuinely help
Source-Specific Notes
YouTube Lectures
- Lead with what the lecture is actually trying to teach (often different from the title)
- Timestamp key moments if transcript is available
- Good for: conceptual overview + worked examples
GitHub Repos
- Focus on: what problem this solves, how it works under the hood, how to use it
- Include a minimal usage example even if the README doesn't have one
- Call out design decisions that are non-obvious
Research Papers
- Translate jargon immediately — never use a term without explaining it
- Focus: problem → key idea → how it works → results → what it means practically
- Skip related work unless it's essential to understand the contribution
- Great candidate for analogies — papers are dense, analogies cut through fast
Pasted Notes / Raw Text
- Treat as the source of truth
- Fill in gaps with your knowledge but flag when you're doing so
- Good for: condensing scattered notes into a coherent mental model
Example Trigger Phrases
Resource-based:
- "Teach me this paper: [link or paste]"
- "I watched this lecture, help me actually understand it"
- "Break down this GitHub repo for me"
- "I pasted my notes, can you turn this into something learnable"
- "Explain [topic] like I know [adjacent thing] but not [specific thing]"
Concept-only (Mode B):
