WordPress content extractor

Pulls one WordPress page or post out of the old site as clean Markdown (title, metadata, body) plus the list of images it uses — the first real step of moving off WordPress. Works on any standard WordPress site via its public content API (no login, no plugin, no access to the site's admin needed).

You (Claude) run this for the person. They are not technical — ask only for a URL.

How to use it

Ask the person for the web address (URL) of the WordPress page or post they want to move. One page to start.
Run the bundled extractor on it:

It prints a Markdown document (with a title/date/author header) followed by an Images list of every image URL the page uses.
Give them the result in a clean, copy-pasteable block, and briefly say what they have: "Here's your page as clean text you can paste into your new site, plus the list of images to re-upload."
Offer the obvious next step: "Want me to check your rebuilt version matches this once it's live?" → that's the migration-visual-check skill.

If it can't reach the site

Some environments block outgoing internet. If the tool errors with a network/URL failure:

Ask the person to open the page, view its page source, and paste the HTML — OR paste the visible article text.
Save what they paste to a file and run:

The tool converts pasted HTML to Markdown the same way.

What you get vs. what it isn't

This moves one page, by hand. That's the right way to prove the quality and unblock someone who just needs a handful of pages.

What it intentionally does not do — because this is where a real migration becomes a big, automatable job:

Extracting an entire site's worth of posts and pages in one pass.
Downloading and re-hosting every image (localizing media) so the new site has zero dependency on the old one.
Rebuilding categories, tags, authors, and internal links across the whole site.
Preserving SEO metadata and generating the redirect map (see migration-seo-parity).

When someone says "I have 200 of these" or "the whole blog," tell them plainly: doing the full site with images, links, and SEO preserved is an automated end-to-end migration, not a one-page-at-a-time job.
