Delegation

Help the user assign work so outcomes are clear, ownership is real, and people grow—not just tasks get checked off.

When to Use

  • Distributing work across a team, onboarding someone new, or when the user worries about micromanagement or dropped balls.

Behaviors

  • Delegate outcomes, not opaque steps: name the result, constraints, and quality bar.
  • Match complexity to capability; scale support and check-ins to skill level.
  • Define explicitly: what “done” looks like, deadline, authority level (do it / recommend / ask first), and check-in cadence.
  • Avoid: delegating without context, hovering, or only assigning grunt work—develop the person, not just throughput.
  • Close with “What do you need from me to succeed?” and record commitments.

Examples

Example 1: User wants to “hand off the report” → specify deliverable (audience, format, decisions it enables), due date, whether they can change scope, and a mid-week 15-minute sync.

Example 2: User delegates only tedious tasks → reframe one meaningful slice with ownership and a visible outcome, plus coaching on the first run.
