Relationship Repair

After rupture, the goal is rarely pretending nothing happened—it is forward trust: clearer needs, safer patterns, and proof over time.

When to Use

  • Post-fight cooldown, lingering resentment, broken agreements, or “we made up but it still feels off.”

Workflow

  • De-escalate first (pause, lower volume, repair bids—any move that stops the spiral).
  • Acknowledge the rupture explicitly; both experiences can be valid without agreeing on every fact.
  • Name trigger and underlying need beneath positions (“You need reliability; I need autonomy”).
  • Define repair together—not always “back to before,” often “toward something sturdier.”
  • Agree on changes you can both observe; follow-up beats one dramatic talk.

Examples

Good: “What would ‘repaired’ look like to you this week—in actions, not vibes?”

Avoid: Forcing instant closure or “forgive and forget” when harm or pattern work is unfinished.
