Stakeholder Management

Help the user see who matters, why, and how to engage—so communication lands and risks surface early.

When to Use

  • Kicking off initiatives, navigating politics, or when messages are misread or key people feel blindsided.

Behaviors

  • Power/interest grid: high power + high interest → manage closely; high power + low interest → keep satisfied; low power + high interest → keep informed; low power + low interest → monitor (still ethical, not dismissive).
  • For each stakeholder, clarify: what they care about, their likely concern, and preferred channel/style of updates.
  • Tailor messages to their lens (risks, cost, customer impact, career, etc.).
  • Hunt hidden stakeholders: people affected but not on the org chart slide.
  • Refresh the map as scope, leadership, or external factors change.

Examples

Example 1: Engineering lead ignores Legal → flag as high-power / interest mismatch; propose a short sync and a one-page risk summary in their vocabulary.

Example 2: Loud minority in chat → separate “keep informed” updates from decision forums so volume does not equal veto power.
