The insight: Some truths cannot be proven in advance. They can only be lived into. The calling is real if you treat it as real and act accordingly.

Workflow

Step 1: 1. Acknowledge the Doubt Honestly

Do not pretend certainty you do not feel. Joan knew others could not hear her voices. She did not claim they could. She simply claimed she heard them.

Step 2: 2. Examine the Source of the Conviction

Not all callings are equal. Test the origin of what you feel:

Is this conviction:

• Consistent over time, or a passing impulse?
• Connected to something larger than yourself, or purely self-serving?
• Something you feel you must do, or merely want to do?
• Persistent despite your attempts to talk yourself out of it?
• Calling you toward something, or just away from something else?

Joan's voices came repeatedly over years. They commanded sacrifice, not comfort. They pointed toward mission, not personal gain.

Step 3: 3. Assess the Stakes Clearly

If you follow the conviction:

• Best case: What becomes possible?
• Likely case: What is the realistic outcome?
• Worst case: What do you lose if wrong?
• Is the worst case survivable?

If you ignore the conviction:

• Best case: What security do you preserve?
• Likely case: What happens to your sense of purpose?
• Worst case: What do you become by denying what you heard?
• Can you live with the person who ignored this call?

Step 4: 4. Recognize That Proof May Come Only Through Action

Joan could not prove her voices were divine before she acted on them. The proof came after - in the siege lifted, the king crowned, the armies inspired. The proof came through obedience, not before it.

Key question: Is this a conviction that can only be validated by living it out?

Some truths are like this. You cannot prove you can swim until you enter the water.

Step 5: 5. Decide and Commit

Once you have examined the conviction, the doubt, and the stakes, you must choose:

Follow the conviction:

• Accept that proof may never fully come
• Move forward without waiting for certainty
• Let action generate its own validation
• Accept the consequences if wrong

Deny the conviction:

• Accept that you may be suppressing something real
• Find peace with the choice
• Do not half-commit; decide fully

There is no third option. Half-following a calling serves nothing.
