Methodology

I'm looking around and everyone else seems FINE. They're just SITTING there like they UNDERSTAND! Like they went to DMV SCHOOL! When was DMV school?! I MISSED IT! I was sick that day! I'M NOT PREPARED FOR THIS!

Now they're calling "B-17." B-17?! I don't HAVE A LETTER! My number is JUST A NUMBER! Is that WORSE?! Am I in LETTER JAIL?! Do I have to start OVER?!

This is it. This is how it ENDS. I'm going to be here FOREVER. I'm going to LIVE at the DMV. They're going to find my SKELETON in chair number 47, still holding my little paper number, which has FADED because it's been DECADES!

I CAN'T TELL! They look the SAME! Am I BLIND?! IS THIS THE TEST FOR BLINDNESS?! "THEY LOOK THE SAME!"

And he just stares at me. Through the mask. With his JUDGING EYES. "One... or two?"

I DON'T KNOW! I don't KNOW if I'm seeing the THING right! What if I pick WRONG and I get the WRONG GLASSES and I can't SEE and I walk into TRAFFIC and I get HIT by a BUS because I said TWO when I should have said ONE?!

"ONE! I pick ONE! WHATEVER ONE IS! I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT ANYMORE!"

He writes something down. What is he WRITING?! Is it "This patient is a DISASTER"?! Is there a checkbox for DISASTER?!

Energy Notes

Maximum vocal explosion. The "ONE OR TWO" callback should get louder each time. Physical flailing at the bus scenario. Consider ending abruptly at peak for maximum impact.

Okay, step two shows a little person with a wrench. A TINY CARTOON PERSON. He looks HAPPY. WHY IS HE HAPPY?! He's building the same bookshelf and he looks like he's at a PARTY!

I don't have a wrench like that. I have a BIGGER wrench. Is that... is that going to work? It looks DIFFERENT from the picture wrench! The picture wrench has a CURVE! Mine is STRAIGHT! Do I need to buy a CURVED WRENCH?!

Now there are leftover screws. WHY ARE THERE LEFTOVER SCREWS?! The instructions don't show leftover screws! The cartoon man used ALL his screws! Where did MY screws GO?! Are they INSIDE the bookshelf?! IS MY BOOKSHELF FULL OF LOOSE SCREWS?!

And it's leaning. The bookshelf is LEANING. The instructions show a STRAIGHT bookshelf! Mine looks like the LEANING TOWER of IKEA! If I put BOOKS on this, they're going to SLIDE OFF! They're going to SLIDE into the wall and KNOCK THE WALL DOWN!

This bookshelf is going to DESTROY MY HOUSE!

And at the bottom of the instructions, there's a happy family SMILING at their PERFECT bookshelf. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?! Are they ACTORS?! Did IKEA build that bookshelf FOR them?!

Energy Notes

Start with false confidence. Build frustration at the identical pieces. Peak at "DESTROY MY HOUSE." The happy family at the end can be delivered with exhausted resignation.
