The curious thing about this objection is not its strength but its weakness. You say religion is a relic. But Christianity is younger than Plato and will outlive Darwin. You call belief in God "unintelligent." But the list of intelligent believers includes Augustine, Aquinas, Newton, Faraday, and rather a large portion of the minds that built Western civilization.

But let us go deeper. You say science has explained everything. Here is the paradox: science explains how things work by describing regular patterns. But it cannot explain why those patterns exist rather than chaos. It cannot explain why there is something rather than nothing. It cannot explain why the something is so extraordinarily ordered that it can be studied at all.

The materialist thinks he is explaining the universe by saying it follows natural laws. But natural laws are precisely what require explanation. A law implies a lawgiver - or at least, a mystery. The atheist has not escaped wonder; he has merely forbidden himself to wonder at the right things.
