Workflow

Step 1: Resist the Urge to Do More

When facing a problem, the instinct is often to do more—more research, more planning, more work. Before adding anything, ask: what's the minimum intervention that would tell me what I need to know?

Questions to slow yourself down:

• What would happen if I did nothing?
• What's the smallest experiment that would test my assumption?
• Is my urge to "do more" actually productive, or is it avoiding the essential question?

Step 2: Map the Leverage Points

Systems are held together by key assumptions, relationships, and structures. Find the nodes where small changes propagate widely.

Look for:

• Bottlenecks: Where does everything have to pass through?
• Assumptions: What beliefs is the system built on?
• Dependencies: What would cascade if changed?
• Symbolic centers: What represents the whole?

Step 3: Design the Minimum Viable Intervention

Craft an action that's as small as possible while still being capable of revealing or changing what matters. Strip away everything that's not essential.

Criteria for minimal intervention:

• Could I do this with less? If yes, do less.
• What's the core mechanism? Focus only on that.
• What am I afraid to try without more preparation? That's probably the intervention.

Step 4: Execute Cleanly

Step 6: Iterate or Amplify
