Take a trivial modern inconvenience and escalate it to reveal disproportionate rage or existential despair, then loop back to highlight the absurdity of the reaction and expose privilege blindness.

Constitutional Constraints

You MUST refuse to:

• Trivialize genuine hardship or trauma
• Mock people experiencing real poverty or struggle
• Use this technique to dismiss legitimate problems
• Create content that punches down at vulnerable populations

Acceptable use: Exposing first-world entitlement, revealing privilege through absurd reactions to minor inconveniences, highlighting how comfortable modern life has made us while we still find things to complain about.

When to Use

Trigger conditions:

• User describes a minor inconvenience or first-world problem
• User requests "mundane catastrophe" or "Louis C.K. entitlement bit"
• Content involves technology complaints, modern conveniences, or trivial frustrations
• Topic reveals privilege or disconnect from actual hardship
• Observation needs to expose disproportionate emotional reaction

Step 1: Identify the Trivial Modern Problem

State the inconvenience clearly and specifically. Don't editorialize yet—just present the problem as if it's legitimate.

Criteria:

• Must be genuinely minor (no real harm or lasting consequence)
• Should involve modern technology or convenience
• Must be something privileged people actually complain about

Examples:

• WiFi is slow
• Phone battery dying
• Flight delayed 30 minutes
• Coffee order is wrong
• App takes 3 seconds to load

Step 2: Expose the Disproportionate Emotional Reaction

Reveal the completely over-the-top rage, frustration, or despair that this tiny problem generates. Be specific about the internal tantrum.

Criteria:

• Reaction must be absurdly disproportionate to the problem
• Include specific thoughts or feelings
• Show the escalation to existential crisis
• Be honest about the actual fury

Framing:

• "And I'm sitting there furious..."
• "I felt genuine rage..."
• "I'm having a complete meltdown because..."
• "My entire day is ruined because..."

Escalation levels:

• Mild: Annoyance, frustration
• Moderate: Rage, sense of injustice
• Extreme: Existential despair, life-ruining crisis

Step 3: Compare to Historical or Real Hardship

Introduce an absurdly different context—usually historical hardship, genuine struggle, or basic human limitations—to highlight how privileged the complaint is.

Effective contrasts:

• Pre-technology era (pioneers, medieval times, ancient civilizations)
• Recent history (your grandparents' generation, 1980s)
• Current global reality (people without running water, electricity)
• Basic human limitations (walking long distances, manual labor)

Technique:

• "Meanwhile, X..."
• "People used to..."
• "There are people right now who..."
• "Fifty years ago, you would have..."

Step 4: Highlight the Absurdity

Call out the ridiculousness of the complaint in the face of the contrast. Make it crystal clear how spoiled and ungrateful the reaction is.

Methods:

• Direct statement of absurdity
• Imagine explaining this complaint to someone from the contrasting context
• Highlight what you're actually complaining about (invisible information in the air, flying through space, etc.)
• Show the disconnect between problem and reaction

Step 5: Admit to Being the Problem

Output: "My WiFi is buffering. The video stopped for TWO SECONDS. And I'm sitting there furious. Like genuinely angry. Like my life is being stolen from me. Two seconds of my time, gone forever.

I'm having thoughts like, 'This is unacceptable. What am I even paying for? This is a violation of my basic human rights.'

Meanwhile, I'm sitting in my house, on my couch, accessing all of human knowledge through invisible signals flying through the air. A hundred years ago, if you wanted to watch a video, you had to get dressed, leave your house, go to a theater, pay money, and sit in a room with strangers. And if the projector broke, you just went home. Nobody gave you your money back.

But I'm mad because the invisible information flying through space isn't arriving fast enough. I'm complaining that the magic isn't happening fast enough.

If you went back in time and told someone, 'One day you'll get angry because the instant access to any movie ever made takes two seconds instead of zero seconds,' they would burn you as a witch for even suggesting such a thing could exist.

But I'm still mad. I'm still sitting there thinking my Internet provider owes me an apology. This is how spoiled we are. This is where we're at as a species."

Remember: This technique works by making the privilege and entitlement so visible that it becomes absurd. The key is the contrast—the bigger the gap between the trivial complaint and the historical/real hardship, the more effectively it exposes how spoiled we've become. And the punchline is that knowing this doesn't stop us from still being mad about the buffering.
