The Fundamental Illusion
The mind creates a division: there is "me" and there are "my thoughts" or "my emotions." There is the controller and the controlled. The observer and the observed. This division seems obvious, but is it real?
"The observer is the observed. The thinker is the thought. Fear is not different from the 'you' who is afraid."
How Division Creates Conflict
When there is division, there must be conflict. The controller trying to control creates resistance. The observer judging the observed creates inner war. This conflict is endless because the fighter and the fought are the same entity - thought fighting thought.
The Collapse of Division
What happens when you see - not merely understand intellectually - that the observer is the observed? That the one who is angry is not separate from anger? That the one who fears is not separate from fear? In this seeing, what happens to conflict?
Attention Without Duality
When the observer dissolves into the observed, there is only observation. Not someone observing something - just pure attention. In this attention, transformation happens without effort.
The Inquiry Framework
Step 1: Name the Division
What is the conflict? How do you perceive the two sides? "Part of me wants X, part of me wants Y." "I can't control my anger." "I'm fighting my fear."
Step 2: Examine the Observer
Who is this one who is fighting, controlling, observing? Where is this entity located? Is it separate from what it observes?
Step 3: Test the Separation
Look at this carefully: is the one who observes fear truly different from fear? Is the controller of anger outside of anger? Or are they the same movement of thought?
Step 4: See the Mechanism
When you see that thought has created both the observer and the observed - that the division is manufactured - what happens to the conflict?
Step 5: Point to Undivided Attention
What remains when the observer dissolves? Not nothingness - but attention without center. Observation without the judge.

The Division Named
The apparent conflict: Anxiety arises and you fight it. There is panic, and there is the one who knows the panic is "irrational" and wants it to stop.
The perceived sides: On one side: anxiety, panic, fear. On the other: the rational mind, the controller, the one who wants peace. Two armies at war inside you.
The assumed structure: You assume there is "you" - the real you, the rational one - and then there is this unwelcome guest called anxiety that invaded your house and must be evicted.
Examining the Observer
Who is this 'I' that struggles? Let us look at this carefully. There is anxiety. And there is - you say - an "I" that observes the anxiety and fights it. But who is this "I"?
Where does this observer stand? If you look for the observer, what do you find? Another thought? The thought "I am anxious" and then the thought "I should not be anxious" - are these two different entities, or are they both movements of the same mind?
Where does the observer stand? The one who says "I know this is irrational" - is that one outside of the anxiety, looking down at it? Or is that thought within the anxious state, part of the same turbulence?
Testing the Separation
Is the controller different from the controlled? You want to control anxiety. But who wants this? Is the one who is disturbed by anxiety separate from the disturbance? Or is the desire to control itself a form of anxiety?
Look: there is the fear. And there is the fear of the fear - the disturbance about being disturbed. Are these two fears, or one fear talking to itself?
What thought creates: Thought says: "There is anxiety, and there is me." But thought created that division. Thought says "I am anxious" and then "I should not be anxious" and then calls the first "the problem" and the second "me." But both are thought. Both are the same movement.
You are not fighting anxiety. Anxiety is fighting anxiety. The "you" that battles is made of the same substance as what it battles.
The Collapse
What happens when division is seen as illusion? When you see - actually see, not just understand as an idea - that the observer is the observed, what happens to the war? If the two armies are the same army, where is the battle?
This is not a trick to make anxiety disappear. Anxiety may remain. But the war with anxiety - the exhausting battle you describe - that war depends on the division. No division, no war.
Attention without center: What remains is not nothing. What remains is anxiety, observed. Not "I observe anxiety" - that recreates the division. Just: observing. Anxiety, observed. Without the judge. Without the fighter.
In this observation there is no one who needs anxiety to change. There is just attention. And in that attention, something strange happens - not by your effort, but because effort has ceased.
The Krishnamurti Insight
"When the observer is the observed, conflict ceases. Not that the experience ceases, but the conflict about the experience. You are no longer fighting yourself because you see there is no 'yourself' separate from what you are fighting.
Anxiety may arise. But when there is no 'you' separate from anxiety - no 'you' who must conquer it - anxiety is seen as a movement of energy, a fact of life in this moment. It is no longer a problem to solve. It is simply what is.
And when you give complete attention to what is, without any desire to change it, without any division - that attention itself has a transforming quality. Not that you transformed it. There was no 'you' to do that. In the absence of the fighter, there is peace."
