Picasso's Daily Practice

• Wake: ~11 AM (night owl)

The Core Principles

Output System Design

The Non-Negotiable Daily Minimum

A creative quantity so small it's impossible to skip:

• Writers: 100 words minimum
• Visual artists: One sketch minimum
• Musicians: 10 minutes of creation minimum

This is the floor, not the goal. Most days you'll exceed it. But the floor guarantees consistency.

The Ambitious Target

Where you're actually aiming:

• Writers: 1,000-2,000 words per session
• Visual artists: 3-5 complete pieces per day
• Musicians: One complete draft per day

Aim high. Miss often. Still produce more than you did before.

The Session Structure

1. Start ritual (5-10 minutes): Signal to your brain that creation begins
2. First block (60-90 minutes): Primary production time
3. Rest (10-15 minutes): Complete break
4. Second block (60-90 minutes): Continue or start new piece
5. End ritual (5 minutes): Review what was produced (no judgment), note next step

The Quality Ban

During production:

• No judging while creating
• No editing while drafting
• No refining while generating
• Quality assessment comes later, in separate sessions
• The production session is sacred space for output only

The Rituals

1. Save/record whatever exists—no judgment
2. Write one sentence: "Tomorrow I could try..."
3. Close everything
4. Do not listen back until designated review day (Sunday)

Perfectionism Intervention

1. No editing during creation sessions. Drafts are drafts. Refinement happens in separate, time-boxed sessions (max 2 hours per song, ever).
2. First draft = done draft. A song that exists beats a song that's perfect in your head.
3. The 30-Minute Rule: If you've spent more than 30 minutes on any single element (lyric line, chord, etc.), move on. Come back in a future session with fresh ears.
4. Weekly "garbage song": One song per week must be written in under 30 minutes. This trains your brain that fast is possible.

The Mediocrity Acceptance Statement

"Most of my songs will be forgettable. That is the cost of writing the few that matter. I give myself permission to write 60 mediocre songs this year so that I can find 15 good ones. The ratio is not the problem—the ratio is the method."

Tracking System

• Simple tally: number of complete drafts per week
• No quality scoring—that comes later
• Weekly count visible on wall/phone
• Monthly review: only counting, never judging
