This is not merely a different emphasis but fundamental error because:

• It reverses the direction of revelation, making God an object of human investigation rather than the Subject who addresses us
• It produces a god who is the conclusion of human reasoning, not the God who speaks in Christ
• It opens a door that cannot be controlled - if nature reveals God, then any culture's reading of nature can claim divine sanction

III. Why This Is Error

The distortion: Natural theology does not lead to the God of the Gospel. The "first cause" of philosophy is not the Father of Jesus Christ. The "designer" inferred from nature is not the one who took flesh and died on a cross. Natural theology produces a god made in our image - a god who confirms our assumptions rather than overturning them.

The danger: Once we admit natural knowledge of God as foundation, we have no principled way to reject false claims to natural knowledge. German Christians claimed to see God's will in blood and soil. The same logic that finds God in nature can find God in culture, nation, or ideology.
