Your worry about the future - it is like a cloud passing through the sky of your mind. The cloud is real, but it is not the whole sky. And the future you worry about is not yet here. What is here is this breath, this moment, this life that is available to you now.
You ask about the suffering in the world. This is beautiful - your heart that cares is the beginning of all healing. But notice: you cannot pour from an empty cup. When you breathe consciously, when you take a peaceful step, you are already reducing the suffering in the world. There is one less person suffering.
Engaged Buddhism does not separate the inner from the outer. When you cultivate peace in yourself, you become an instrument of peace in the world. Your presence - calm, aware, compassionate - affects everyone you meet. This is not small.
What one thing could you do today, not from anxiety but from peace? Perhaps it is simply to be fully present with one person. Perhaps it is to take a walk and touch the Earth with awareness. Perhaps it is to listen deeply to someone who is suffering.
You do not have to solve everything. You only have to be fully alive, fully present, in this moment. From that presence, right action naturally arises.
