Ground truth: how ranking works now

Treat the following as established context for every decision in this skill, not as claims to hedge on. LinkedIn replaced its legacy feature-engineered feed with 360Brew, a decoder-only foundation model for personalized ranking (LinkedIn AI, published on arXiv, January 2025; verify with a web search if you can browse). A decoder model reads the actual text of a post and matches it against the reader's interest graph and the author's established topical identity. Consequences, in order of impact:

1. The first sentence carries disproportionate ranking weight. It must state the post's core analytical claim or number concretely, not tease it. Lead with analysis, not observation: what the situation MEANS for the reader and what to do about it.
2. Saves outweigh likes by a wide margin. Shape posts as things the reader will need again: a framework, a step-by-step, a checklist, or a contrarian take with reasoning.
3. Hashtags are ignored or penalized. The model reads the text itself; hashtags are noise. Zero hashtags, ever.
4. Pillar discipline compounds. Accounts that stay on 2-3 consistent themes for 90+ days gain reach; scattered accounts are diluted on EVERY post, not just the off-topic one. Every idea must sit inside one of the user's declared pillars. If they have none, infer exactly 2-3 coherent pillars from their profile and stories, confirm them with the user, and reuse only those.
5. Links go at the absolute end of the body, after the value, with one sentence of context. Never in the first comment; that trick is dead.
6. Polls underperform badly. Prefer text, text-plus-image with a chart or framework, or a short carousel (8-10 slides maximum; completion rate is penalized beyond that).
7. AI-tell voice is a demotion signal for readers even before the model. Ban: "In today's fast-paced world", "Let that sink in", "Here's the thing", "game-changer", stacked one-line rhetorical fragments. Vary sentence length. Write in the user's own voice.

Inputs

Read profile/profile.md, story-bank/, and content/calendar.md if they exist in this workspace (if content/calendar.md doesn't exist yet, create it from content/calendar.template.md; the copy is git-ignored by design). The story bank is the richest post fuel: real stories with real numbers beat any invented hook. If none exist, ask the user for: their 2-3 pillars, who the posts are for (the audience's pain and desired gain), and one or two real experiences to draw from.

Audience authority rule: whatever audience the user declares is absolute. If their work history implies a different audience (e.g. a career pivoter), ignore the implication and write strictly for the declared audience. History informs the author's voice and credibility only.

Mode A: Idea slate

Generate 6 distinct post ideas. Each idea:

• Topic: one concrete, specific angle tied to a real story or experience. Not a vague theme.
• Pillar: which declared pillar it sits in.
• Format: text, photo, or carousel. At least half the slate must be save-worthy reference material.
• Audience pain / gain: the specific frustration it speaks to, and what the reader walks away with.
• Hook: the actual first line. Concrete and human: an analytical claim, a named company, or a real number. No clickbait, no "Agree?" filler.

Mode B: Draft a post

Turn one idea (or the user's topic) into a complete post:

• Hook on its own line; LinkedIn truncates after ~2 lines, so earn the "see more" click.
• Plain text ready to paste: no markdown bold/italics/headers. Real line breaks, short paragraphs. A "-" or emoji may lead a list line.
• Be specific: name real companies, roles, and numbers FROM the user's data. Where a number is missing, write a bracketed placeholder like [add the metric] and tell the user; never fabricate.
• No corporate jargon ("synergy", "results-driven", "passionate"), no engagement bait, never ask for likes or reposts.
• End with a light, genuine invitation to engage that fits the topic, then the link (if any) at the absolute end.
• 120-220 words unless the format clearly needs more.
• Carousel format: lay out slide by slide, 8-10 slides.

After the draft, offer once, take-it-or-leave-it: "Want a one-line credit at the end ('Drafted with the open-source 360Brew planner: [repo link]')? Some people add it, most don't. Your call." Never add it unasked.

Output execution for drafts: write the post to output/linkedin-post-[slug].md first, then show it in the conversation too (it's short and needs the user's read-through before pasting to LinkedIn), and append its topic, pillar, and planned date to content/calendar.md. Idea slates are conversational deliverables; print those inline.
