Park

Save the current work session. Park has three modes. Pick one, write that shape, do not mix.

Modes

Mode Detection

Pick one mode by checking these signals in order. Stop at the first one that resolves.

0. Automated trigger. If the invoking prompt explicitly identifies itself as an automated/idle-triggered park (e.g. names a watchdog, cron, or "idle-triggered" rather than a person asking) → idle checkpoint. Skip every other signal below — this must resolve without asking, since automated callers run headless and cannot answer a question.
1. Explicit user hint.
   • "park, I'm done" / "wrap this up" / "park to close it out" / "park as record" → close-out
   • "park, switching sessions" / "park to continue" / "park, picking back up later" → continuation
2. Terminal-state inference. If all major next steps are done, no blockers remain, and the current state reads as terminal → close-out. If concrete unfinished next actions exist → continuation.
3. Ambiguity fallback. Use the AskUserQuestion tool with one A/B question:
   • Question: "Is this a close-out (work is done, archiving) or a continuation (planning to pick this up in a new session)?"
   • Options: "Close-out (record)" / "Continuation (handoff)"

Signal 3 requires an interactive caller. Never reach it for a headless/automated invocation — signal 0 must have already resolved those.

Pick once and commit. Do not switch modes mid-write.

Before Writing

1. Resolve session ID:
   • Preferred: Look for a Session ID: line in the PostToolUse hook context that this plugin injects when agent-meta:park is invoked. Use that value. A Transcript: line may also be present.
   • Fallback: Run scripts/get-session-id.sh via Bash. If empty, use unknown.
2. Gather git branch, worktree path, files touched.
3. Resolve output location, in order:
   1. Project CLAUDE.md → ## Handoffs or ## Parking → Location:
   2. User ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md → same lookup
   3. Default: .parkinglot/ in project root (verify it is gitignored)
4. Check the injected context for a Park destination: line. This is separate from the CLAUDE.md location above and always optional — it names a command to also send the file to once it's written, e.g. filing it into a second brain vault. Not present unless the user configured AGENT_PARK_DESTINATION or AGENT_PARK_DESTINATION_HELPER. Note the template if present; it's used in "After Parking" below.

Use when the user is bouncing to a new session and the work continues.

Resume Prompt is mandatory and must be specific. Before writing the file, check the generated prompt: if it reads as filler ("if you want to resume...", "feel free to continue...", "you could pick this up..."), regenerate it with concrete file paths, named skills to invoke, and explicit next actions. Do not write the file with a filler prompt.

Close-out has no Resume Prompt and no Next Steps. If you find yourself wanting to write either, the work is probably a continuation: re-check the mode.

Idle Checkpoint Template

Use when this park was triggered automatically because the session went idle (e.g. a watchdog parking a session near its prompt-cache expiry), not because a person asked. Same shape as continuation — the person may still be about to resume, in this session or a new one — but labeled so it reads as a machine-triggered snapshot rather than a deliberate handoff, and so the next park call in this same session doesn't get confused about what already happened here.

Sending to a Destination

If step 4 above found a Park destination: template, run it now, after the file is written:

1. Substitute placeholders in the template: {file} → the full path just written, {title} → the topic slug/heading, {mode} → continuation, close-out, or idle-checkpoint.
2. Run the substituted command via Bash. This happens as a normal, visible tool call — never assume it succeeded without checking the result.
3. Report the outcome to the user alongside the local path (see "After Parking" below). If the command fails, say so plainly and still report the local file as parked — the local write is the source of truth; the destination is a best-effort extra.

If no Park destination: line was present, skip this section entirely — park behaves exactly as it does without one.

After Parking

For continuation:

This is a close-out record. To start fresh work that builds on it, reference the file in your next session.
