Visual Hierarchy: What to Use and in What Order

When selecting visuals for product pages, follow a clear priority order. Do not treat all visual formats as interchangeable.

• Use product screenshots second. Screenshots are acceptable when GIFs aren't available, but only if they show something differentiated — not a generic interface that could belong to any competitor. Making Visuals Earn Their Place

Every visual on a page must do messaging work. Treat decorative or space-filling images as a liability, not a neutral choice.

The hero section is the highest-stakes visual real estate on any page. Apply extra scrutiny here.

• Do not default to product screenshots — especially side-by-side desktop and mobile versions — as hero images unless they directly amplify your core message.
