Issue Description

Users experienced a 404 (NOT FOUND) error when using the gpt-image-1 model for image generation, while dall-e-3 worked correctly. The error manifested as:

[loadMessages Loop] Role: image
null:1   GET https://127.0.0.1:5000/null 404 (NOT FOUND)

Root Cause Analysis

The issue had multiple contributing factors:

1. API Version Incompatibility: The default API version (2024-05-01-preview) did not support the newer gpt-image-1 models
2. Null URL Handling: When image generation failed or returned null URLs, the frontend attempted to load src="null" causing 404 errors
3. Insufficient Error Handling: Limited validation and debugging information for image generation responses

Technical Solution

1. API Version Update

2. Fetch and select the gpt-image-1 model
