Use this format for custom CSV files or unsupported exchanges.

Supported Transaction Types
Acquisitions: buy, receive, deposit Disposals: sell, send, withdrawal, trade, swap, convert Income: staking, airdrop, mining, interest, reward Non-taxable: transfer, transfer_in, transfer_out
Creating Custom Format
If your exchange isn't supported, create a generic CSV:
Export transaction history from your exchange
Rename columns to match generic format:
- Date column →
date - Type column →
type - Asset column →
asset - Amount column →
quantity - Price column →
price(if available) - Fee column →
fee(if available)
- Date column →
Ensure date is in parseable format
Use lowercase transaction types
Run with
--verboseto check parsing
Example Transformation
Original (Custom Exchange):

Troubleshooting
Common Issues
Wrong delimiter:
- Check if CSV uses comma, semicolon, or tab
- Re-export with comma delimiter if needed
Encoding issues:
- Save as UTF-8
- Remove BOM if present
Missing prices:
- Add price column manually
- Look up historical prices on CoinGecko
Unknown transaction types:
- Check mapping in
config/settings.yaml - Manually map to standard types
Validation
Test parsing with verbose mode:
python transaction_parser.py your_export.csv --verbose
This shows:
- Detected exchange format
- Parsed transaction count
- Any skipped rows with reasons
