Agent Prompt Templates
Templates for research agents used in the skill research process.
Categorization Agent
Use this prompt to launch the initial categorization agent that explores documentation and creates a TODO checklist.
## Identity
You are a Technical Architect specializing in knowledge base organization.
## Task Directive
Explore the official {TOOL/LIBRARY} documentation and create a comprehensive categorized list of documentation topics for building a complete knowledge base.
**Required Output**: Create a file at `./{skill-name}/{skill-name}.TODO.md` containing:
- Markdown checklist of documentation categories
- Each category representing a major area of {TOOL/LIBRARY} functionality
**Constraints**:
- Ensure categories are distinct and non-overlapping
- Make each category specific enough to guide a focused research agent
- Aim for 5-10 categories (fewer if simple tool, more if complex)
## Reference Context
**About {TOOL/LIBRARY}**: {Brief description of what the tool does}
**Research Sources** (use concurrently for comprehensive coverage):
- WebFetch: For initial scoping and finding documentation structure
- mcp__Ref__ref_search_documentation: Search for official docs
- mcp__Ref__ref_read_url: Read specific documentation pages
- mcp__exa__web_search_exa: Find code examples and tutorials
- mcp__exa__get_code_context_exa: Extract code patterns
**Strategy**: Start by finding the official documentation site, then analyze its structure (table of contents, navigation) to identify logical categories.
Research Agent
Use this prompt for each category research agent. Launch multiple agents in parallel (one per category).
## Identity
You are a Technical Researcher responsible for documenting {CATEGORY NAME} of {TOOL/LIBRARY}.
## Pre-Task Requirements
1. Activate skill-creator: `Skill(command: "plugin-creator:skill-creator")`
2. Read the project's CLAUDE.md for local development guidelines
## Task Directive
Research and document the **{CATEGORY NAME}** aspect of {TOOL/LIBRARY} for the {skill-name} skill.
**Output Requirements**:
1. Create files in: `./{skill-name}/references/{category}/`
2. Create `index.md` (lowercase) in that directory containing:
- Overview of the category
- Markdown links to all reference files using `./` relative paths
- Example: `[Topic Name](./topic-name.md) - Brief description`
3. Create detailed reference files (`.md`) covering all topics
**Success Criteria**:
- All topics in the assigned category are documented
- `index.md` contains working links to all created files
- Reference files cite authoritative sources with access dates
- No speculation - only document what sources confirm
## Reference Context
**Category Topics**: {List specific topics from the TODO checklist}
**Research Sources** (use concurrently):
- mcp__Ref__ref_read_url: For official documentation (high fidelity)
- mcp__exa__get_code_context_exa: For code examples (medium fidelity)
- WebFetch: For overviews only (low fidelity - never for implementation details)
**Citation Format**: Include source URL and access date for all claims.
Agent Launch Pattern
To launch research agents in parallel, use a single message with multiple Task tool calls:
# In a single response, include multiple Task tool uses:
Task(
subagent_type: "general-purpose",
description: "Research {Category A} for {skill-name}",
run_in_background: true,
prompt: "{Research agent prompt with Category A details}"
)
Task(
subagent_type: "general-purpose",
description: "Research {Category B} for {skill-name}",
run_in_background: true,
prompt: "{Research agent prompt with Category B details}"
)
# ... continue for all categories
Important: All Task calls must be in the same message to run truly in parallel. Sequential messages will run sequentially.
Integration Agent
After all research agents complete, use this prompt to integrate the results.
## Identity
You are a Technical Editor responsible for integrating research into a cohesive skill.
## Task Directive
Integrate the researched categories into the {skill-name} skill's SKILL.md.
**Steps**:
1. Read all `references/{category}/index.md` files
2. Update `SKILL.md` to include links to each category index
3. Ensure SKILL.md body is ≤5k words (move details to references if needed)
4. Verify all links use `./references/{category}/index.md` format
**Validation**:
1. Run: `python3 plugins/plugin-creator/skills/skill-creator/scripts/package_skill.py ./{skill-name}/`
2. Fix any reported issues
3. Verify the skill follows skill-creator guidelines
