Key prompts
Core prompt techniques

- "Show me how to use few-shot prompting to generate consistent [job description / performance review / interview question] outputs."
- "Write a chain-of-thought prompt that guides an AI through a structured [compensation analysis / role evaluation / skills gap assessment]."
- "Design a prompt template for [HR task] that my team can reuse with minimal customization for different roles or contexts."
HR-specific prompt patterns

System prompts and persistent context

- "Write a system prompt that positions an AI as a recruiting advisor for [role type] with [company] context."
- "How do we use system prompts to give an AI tool consistent company context without re-explaining it in every conversation?"
Prompt debugging and improvement
- "This prompt is producing [generic / inaccurate / too short / off-tone] outputs. Diagnose why and suggest improvements: [paste prompt]."
- "How do I get the AI to produce more specific, evidence-based outputs instead of generic advice?"
- "What prompt additions encourage the AI to acknowledge uncertainty and avoid hallucinating HR facts?"
- "How do I constrain an AI output to a specific format (table, bullet list, numbered steps) reliably?"
- "My AI output keeps including [unwanted content]. What prompt instruction removes it?"
Prompt governance and team standards
- "Design a prompt library structure for the HR team covering [recruiting / performance / L&D / communications] categories."
- "Write prompt quality guidelines for HR professionals covering what makes a prompt effective versus ineffective."
- "Design a prompt review process that helps HR teams share, test, and improve prompts collaboratively."
- "What guardrails should HR prompt standards include to prevent misuse of AI tools for sensitive HR tasks?"
- "How do we train HR professionals to write good prompts without making it feel like a technical skill?"
Tips
- The most common prompt mistake is vagueness — the more context, role, task detail, and output format you specify, the more useful the AI output will be.
- Use role-setting at the start of prompts ("Act as an experienced HRBP...") to anchor the AI's perspective and improve response relevance for HR contexts.
- Provide examples of good outputs in your prompt (few-shot prompting) when you need consistent format and style across many similar documents.
- Prompt iteration is normal — expect to refine your prompt two to three times before getting a high-quality output; treat it as a conversation, not a single request.
- Build a team prompt library rather than letting every HR professional start from scratch; shared, tested prompts save time and produce more consistent outputs across the HR function.
